My hope for powers: Powers that use skills

I could have written this post, except that it is short and to the point.

Are stat modifiers really bonus + 1/2 per level?

I believe (and hope) that you are correct. IMO this method is the easiest to remember and the most elegant solution.

First Level Powers at Epic Levels?

I have always allowed players to change their character's build. IMO forcing someone to play bad choices for the life of the character is a bad idea. I fail to see why you would wish to remove the retraining option from the rules just because you don't like them. Other gamers have different...

    Where are the rapiers?

I'm hoping for something along the lines of: Shortsword: a bladed weapon with a length of x-y inches. Shortswords include the gladius, the xiphos, blah, blah, blah. The same could be done for long swords, daggers, two-handed swords, etc.... I really believe that the weapons listed are weapon...

    Where are the rapiers?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

What do you think Paladins will get as per day abilities?

I don't think it will be an issue if the character is allowed a saving throw each round to shake off the sleep/hold/etc....

    Rogue Starting HP

This is why all of my recent 3e games have started at 3rd level. I look forward to enjoying 1st level play again.

    Diagonals revisited

I guess the real issue is that there are two distinct camps in this thread. One group believes that it is more important for movement in the game to better simulate real world geography. The other group believes that it is more important to simplify movement. I'm not suggesting yet another poll...

    Rogue Crossbowmen: The ultimate sniper?

We still don't know what proficiency means in 4e. It would be odd that rogues couldn't use other weapons. One poster in another thread posited that proficiency brings a bonus, or special ability rather than non-proficiency bringing a penalty. In the end we don't know. Also, there could be...

    The Inverse Trek Law?

From what we've seen, 4e is all about new ideas and mechanics. Isn't that what so many posters are complaining about?

    The Inverse Trek Law?

I had a lot of fun with 1e when it came out. Of course I always ignored some of the clunkier bits, like weapon speeds and weapon bonuses to hit armor types. Ouch! But true, oh so true. When they changed demons and devils to unpronounceable words of many syllables, it seemed to me to be...

    The Inverse Trek Law?

How dare you, sir? How dare you introduce logic into an internet discussion?

D&D 4E The 4e rogue: Good power names!!

They could have just called them Striker Power I, Striker Power II, Striker Power III, etc.... Personally, I don't care what they call the powers. I got over the druid class having nothing to do with historical druids. I can get over Chibi Manticore Kick.

    Diagonals revisited

You don't understand the point at all! The problem is that the rest of us won't be playing the way others want us to play. It isn't enough that the system can be easily house ruled. Those who play with 1-1-1-1 diagonal movement aren't really playing D&D. Neither are those who use hexes instead...

    Diagonals revisited

Ah! Today's anti-4e talking point is: 4e is less of an rpg and more of a board game. Myself, I was hoping for: 4e is less of an rpg and more like canasta. It makes just as much sense, and has the added value of being original.

    Diagonals revisited

Celebrim, I am happy to say that we are in 100% agreement on this issue. I have always found maps on hex mats to be visually unappealing. This is one of the reasons why. That said, I would probably use hex mats if DDM used them. I often incorporate predrawn maps into my scenarios because I find...

    D&D 4E The 4E Rogue...love it or hate it?

I like the static hit points. In 3e constitution had too much influence on hit points. This would have made sense if D&D used hit points solely as a measure of physical toughness. But since hit points have never been defined that way in D&D, the 4e model makes much more sense. At lower levels...

    D&D 4E The 4E Rogue...love it or hate it?

You seem to be confusing builds with the rogue options. You’re going to see something called “builds” in the information that follows. Builds present themes that you can use to guide you as you select powers and other abilities. You can follow the advice of a build, or you can ignore it. It’s...

D&D 4E The 4e rogue: Good power names!!

I don't know. I was kind of hoping for Purple Monkey Assault and Chartreuse Daisy Maneuver.

    D&D 4E The 4E Rogue...love it or hate it?

I love it. I'm excited about playing a rogue in 4e. I thought the 3e rogue was about as unfun a character class as I had ever played. (3e Bard was actually worse). This was disturbing to me on many levels. In AD&D, thief was my favorite character class. Ironically, in 2e it was bard. Luckily...
