    D&D 5E (2014) Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

Mathemagician: D&D is at least partially a game about math, so let's have an intelligence based caster who gets enhanced powers based on math. You can have subclasses like the numerologist, who gets bonuses whenever specific patterns occur in randomly rolled dice (like "whenever you add a...

D&D General What is your favorite "campaign paradigm"

A lot of my creative works, inclusive of tabletop and video game design but also prose and narrative poems I've worked on, is the unifying notion of "The Horror of Heroism". Simply put, if we exist in a world where some people are simply more important to the narrative of reality than others...

D&D General Liquid Metal and 50 years of D&D!

I got really into a band called Gygax a while back, and you also can't go wrong with Dungeon Weed

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

IDK if I've said it here before but we should have "basic" and "advanced" D&D again, with the "basic" rules being a slightly more stripped down version of 5e that is targeted towards Crit Role and actual play fans and to a lesser extent those who prefer less combat oriented gameplay (which seems...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

I'd pay good money for a book about the Vodoni empire using lycanthropic sleeper agents to destabilize Krynn

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Divorcing D&D From [EDIT: Medievalishness], Mechanically Speaking.

Usually when people talk about "medievalism" it's a historical discipline; are we not discussing history here?

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Divorcing D&D From [EDIT: Medievalishness], Mechanically Speaking.

The "classic" D&D setting derives from American pulp fantasy (we credit Tolkien for being the originator of D&D's tropes, but that's not the case whatsoever), which derives from American history of the "wild west" and manifest destiny. The core of D&D is people designating an extant culture as...

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

Gnomes were in the Silmarillion; they were just called the Noldor

D&D 5E (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

Did WotC hire a buncha Brazilians or something because for the life of me I can't understand why they're pushing the cast of the mediocre 80s TV show so hard, and barely anyone who's not Brazilian has fond memories of it. That being said, Venger being prominent on the cover reminds me of my...

D&D 5E (2014) Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Would Like To Explore Kara-Tur

I'm sure others have said it, but the spellplague should be used to shake up the politics and culture of Kara-Tur- and maybe some of the other settings like Maztica or Al Qadim. The only things that should be the same are the geography and the history up until the 14th century DR. Having never...

D&D General Hasbro Is Looking For Partners For Baldur's Gate 4

If I were WotC I'd park a big truck of money outside Neil Newbon's house and make him host an in-house actual play show since he's both the breakout star of the game and already familiar with D&D rules. He could be a Matt Mercer who's more under their thumb.

D&D General Hasbro Is Looking For Partners For Baldur's Gate 4

While they're working on BG4 they need to take the BG3 characters and slap them on book titles like they do with Tasha and Bigby's. "Karlach's guide to the hells", "Lae'zel's astral adventures" etc etc.

D&D 5E (2024) Mystara in new edition confirmed

Then you're basically two steps away from the "noble savage" trope. The colonizers were almost all villains, but the colonized? They're just people. Good, bad, ambivalent, apathetic. The colonizers are defined by their actions, the act of colonizing, so we can say that they are villains. The...

D&D 5E (2024) Mystara in new edition confirmed

I wouldn't call destroying the Xaryxian empire genocide; it's self defense. They are destroying entire naughty word suns. Some sun's gotta blow up and it ain't gonna be that of the player characters.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Dungeons and Dragons is a game. Nothing in it is necessary; it's a frivolity. If you care about what's necessary get off the internet and do something more meaningful than whine about fantasy classes.

D&D 5E (2024) 5e Aasimar are in the Players Handbook − what should the flavor be?

That's entirely fair, but having run multiple games for first-time players and people who are new to D&D, I'd say I've had someone wanting to play a goblin at my table like 75% of the time and I've never seen someone want to make an aasimar. Symmetry is nice, but I'm very much of the "give the...

D&D General So, how much did/do you use psionics?

I haven't run a lot of AD&D games and when I have the players have wanted to be very conservative with the classes, characters and overall fantasies they want to enact. I wouldn't ban anyone from using psionics at my table in a 1e game, but I've never had a player want to use them, so the few...

D&D 5E (2024) 5e Aasimar are in the Players Handbook − what should the flavor be?

I'm glad aasimar are in (makes sense if tieflings are), but I'm honestly surprised that goblins aren't in the PHB- though maybe they're afraid of being accused of ripping off PF2e.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

The game had been doing gangbusters for years as an early access title, it didn't really "come out" in 2023. Hell WotC greenlit an entire MTG set about the game years before it came out; they could've used some of the art from those cards.
