Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Page Count, Contents Revealed

Perhaps hold person can be something like "the hold person spell affects any small or medium creature with no more than four legs, no more than four arms and no more than six limbs total". I think that'd include like thri-kreen and centaurs while excluding mariliths? Also the new khoravar is...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Page Count, Contents Revealed

Saying that magic and science collide is far more accurate than saying magic replaced science in Eberron. In Eberron, magic is practiced scientifically: there are laboratories, hypotheses, data and a big emphasis of the setting is on reliably replicating phenomena. That's science baby, even if...

Maybe "magewright" for a blue collar mage?

Dungeons & Dragons Shifts to Franchise Model, Dan Ayoub Named as Head

Let's not forget they explicitly did design a tie-in prequel adventure to BG3, but Larian took so long in development that their game came out years later. The first act directly follows from BGDiA, I'm sure they planned for there to be only a year or two between the adventure and the game but...

D&D General Boots of Striding and Springing

Some playable races, like dwarves or small races, have a speed of 25 instead of 30. This may have changed with the new 2024 rules, but then the language is still there for any older races that haven't been updated.

D&D General More details on what to expect from the Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms from Polygon, Massive Amount of Spells & Feats

I definitely think Calimshan pulls double duty, it's a "token noneuropean setting" but if it ends up being popular that probably lets them know they can greenlight a revised Al-Qadim setting or something else like Maztica or Kara Tur

D&D General Wearing a lantern on your belt?

I would, but then I'd have the unequip my onion, and that is decidedly against the fashion of the time.

Dungeons & Dragons Shifts to Franchise Model, Dan Ayoub Named as Head

As someone currently working in corporate media and IP what they're doing now seems like a no brainer. I'm actually kinda shocked they weren't already operating in a franchise oriented model.

D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

I find myself in a lot of casinos for work and I always remark to myself how weird it is there isn't a licensed D&D slot machine, especially since there's a thematic link between the dice used for D&D and the dice used for things like craps. I thought maybe it's because Hasbro wanted to keep the...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

That's the thing though; climbing a cliff or fighting a mimic in combat, there are failure states. You take damage, you die. There are consequences for rolling low. If you try to bust open a door and fail, but you're allowed to try again until you succeed, what are the consequences? At that...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

The door doesn't get to try to force you open in return, unless it's a mimic.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

I know I'd be a bad parent because my philosophy as a DM is "a skill check represents you trying your best: your best wasn't good enough". If you think you can get a 20 on that theives tools roll to unlock the door, then you shoulda thought of that before you rolled the dice the first time...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I guess technically the Khoravar is new and exciting even if I want to think of it as a rehash of a 2014 PHB race

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Wasn't the book slated to have five species, with the Khoravar? Did they cut it or are just conspicuously not featuring it?

D&D General D&D Beyond's Users Online Over Last Year

I've had a lot of free time recently and I've spent a fair chunk of it thinking about d&d in the abstract: my homebrew campaign, forgotten realms lore, character builds, etc. D&D as a brand has good "market cap" on my brain, as it were But what I'm not thinking about are official wizards of...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

The difference is that Eberron was explicitly created with the philosophy of "if it exists in d&d, it exists in Eberron". There is barely any lore attached to races in 5.5e anymore anyway, so their fey origin is pretty immaterial.

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

How were the goblin statblocks in any prior edition any more evocative of dhaakanii culture than what we have now?

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I fail to see how the changes to goblins in 5.5 really substantively change anything about eberron. All the retcon implies is that rather than just kind of popping up randomly on the planet of eberron they came to it from one of the planes that has fairies, and then they built their empire. Not...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Could be a shifter but during 4e I remember Keith Baker saying that because Rakshasas were the dominant fiends of Khorvaire, most tieflings actually look like tiger people
