I second Brust. The man is everything I wish I could be as a writer. Though his works aren't gaming based, so I'm not sure that that applies to your question. Gaming based books - the first three Shadowrun books, it's the Secrets of Power series: "Never Deal with a Dragon", "Choose Your Enemies...

Raleigh NC has a high percentage too- though not surprising given the number of colleges in the area and that we get a lot of students out of Greensboro (like me). With RTP and all it's tech/geek jobs - including a few smaller video game companies right nearby - we're not hurting for gamers. :)

Look in the PHB under general equipment. It'll list the values of 'types' of meals - good quality, poor quality etc. You can then price your food out based on how good it is for the place your players are in.
