    The Origin of the Fireball

Very fascinating. I, too, am interested in history and origins of various things. This information just goes to show there are very few original things under the sun. Thanks for posting!

    D&D 5E (2014) A Tour of Eberron By Level

The original adventure path series published by WotC after the release of the Eberron campaign setting did a fairly good job at traversing some of the major parts of Khorvaire, including Xen'drik, exposing new players to that world. I recommend finding some of those adventures and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Murder in Baldur's Gate Additional Events

Echohawk, Thanks for replying. No need for apologies. I did not realize the supplements were all up on DnD Classics. The monster stats pdf is still available free on-line, so I was puzzled why the events supplement was not. Now I know the answer. I will check out DnD classics. Thanks!

    D&D 5E (2014) ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

FYI, Thanks for all you hard work. The spreadsheet is the best generator for 5th edition characters that is available. Happy New Year, Collin

    D&D 5E (2014) Murder in Baldur's Gate Additional Events

Pardon me for rehashing this topic just a bit, but I am interested in running Murder in Baldur's Gate and I was looking for the pdf downloads that WotC had posted for that adventure. I found the monster stats, but he event supplement has apparently been taken down (not sure why). See link...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whimsy in your game?

Whimsy is good, but it has to be in a proper amount. Too much and the game devolves and just gets silly. Too little, and it just gets too serious and not as much fun. Even the original Star Trek would occasionally delve into a little whimsy to keep from being too dire and serious.

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

That's what I said. Listen to the Man in the Funny Hat - he knows what he's talking about.

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

Quag Keep by Andre Norton was (to my knowledge) the "first" D&D novel, and it involved people from the real world playing the game who found themselves thrust into the fantasy world. It was fairly well received for its time. Now, having said that, I would not advocate for a film adaptation of...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your Master Villain like?

In the Eberron setting, I have a villain the group has never even met yet! He is a Prof. Moriarty kind of character - a puppet-master, pulling the strings of the other bad guys the group has come across but so far they have not come face-to-face. He is very high up in The Aurum. By political...

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

I think you have some good ideas here, but I would like to take it a step further (or a step back, depending on how you look at it). To make a good D&D movie, you need ... a good story, good dialogue, and acted well. Pretty generic, I know, but the really good movies have nothing to do with...

Could the "Warcraft" movie completely over-shadow the "D&D" movie?

As already mentioned here, there should not be a problem with Warcraft and the new D&D movie competing against each other since they will probably come out 2-3 years apart. However, if Warcraft is bad, then that will likely affect the D&D film since it will not be long enough between release...

    D&D 5E (2014) [post-Sword Coast announcement] Speculation about WotC's product release schedule

Based on what we have seen and read so far, I think Option A is the more likely scenario, but I would prefer Option B.

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

Thank you. Some calm sanity after battle of words about the definition of a word, as if it mattered more than a rat's bladder. Given this whole over-reaction, I think Morrus is right in that if I were anyone at WotC right now, I would just say, "Well, that's the last time we say anything in...

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

I am glad you created this post. It explains a lot to me as far as what can be perceived as a slow release of materials, such as adventures for the D&D brand. With this much to-and-fro between WotC and Company X, it would seem to me to take quite a bit longer than if 1 company were simply...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D without the Cleric

I am in a group with six players and we have no cleric and only 1 quasi-healer in the party: a paladin. The rest of the group consists of a rogue, a barbarian, a warlock, and 2 monks. We do okay. I think the DM is giving us a little help with "finding" some healing potions, but otherwise it's...

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide: The First Official D&D 5E Setting

I am looking forward more to the new gaming material than the actual setting. Not sure if I would call Sword Coast a setting; it's more like a sub-setting, but I won't quibble about the details. Very interested in looking at this book when it comes out.

D&D 5E (2014) If the characters are super optimized should the monsters be boosted too?

I ran into a similar problem not too long ago in running a Pathfinder adventure. I had allowed the players to roll up characters that were somewhat extreme in stats just to see what would happen. What I found worked best was not increasing the difficulty of the monsters, but rather just keep...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you ever create a PC off a mini?

I do not recall if I ever chose a miniature as a model from which to create a full playing character, but I have used mini's as inspiration to create other characters, such as monsters. For example, after seeing the Rackham Confrontation figures the Alchemists of Dirz, I used them as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for STR-based rogue archetype

I have created a similar character to what you are describing, but he is human and I ended up making him a Rogue/Fighter because of some of the concerns you have regarding the lack of Dex but higher Str and Con. I based him off of the Richard Stark/Donald Westlake character of Parker...

D&D 5E (2014) Most useful DM tools at the table? Please share

I have used the DM tracker from Goodman Games since v3.5. Some of the sheets within it are still usable with any version, while some are more 3.5 specific. However, the handiest thing about it is the back cover which is a watermarker erasable initiative chart, and I use it all the time. For...
