D&D 5E (2014) What do you think Wizard's preferred customer is like and what are his/her buying habits?

Only one thing: name recognition, which is perhaps the biggest thing WotC has going for it in D&D. Without that, we would not have seen a 5th edition and it would likely have simply been shelved or sold to some other company who might try to capitalize on said name recognition.

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

I agree with 77IM. Whatever you do, do not ignore it, and do not let him ignore it, ala George in the Seinfeld episode "The Revenge" and pretend like it never happened. Because if you do, it will only makes worse the next time something like this happens.

35 New Fan-Created D&D 5th Edition Resources For Your Game!

Also Pathguy was allowed by WotC/Hasbro to put his character generator javascript website for 5e back up, but it is a mere shadow of its former self. They only allowed him to make the basic rules from the initial free material available to be used to create a character. That may be okay if...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Agreed. Which is also pretty much true of WotC/Hasbro or any other company we talk about here. I think it's fine for us to speculate and conjecture, as long as we realize that is all it is. Without true inside knowledge or access to any company's financial data, we are all just guessing. But...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

I was speaking to the theory some people have posted in these forums about the reason for 4th edition failing was they basically glutted the market too fast with too much product. For me, I don't buy into that theory. Of course, my own explanation is also a theory. It's just I have a...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

But is that just trying to make even more money, or a sign that Pathfinder as an RPG is failing in terms of revenue? I don't think anyone on these forums can say for certain. And what is considered acceptable profit by today's standards? 100% return on investment? 200%? 300%?

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

That was all due to how they designed and marketed 4th edition from the get-go. I am not buying this theory of "4th edition failed because of WotC's strategy in launching so much product and their release schedule". That is either pure BS or WotC has too much analysis paralysis. I played 4th...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

You think they are producing oodles of @#$%! at a loss? I could see a few months here and there, but if there was a trend of definite loss, I think anyone with a brain would say it's time to cut our losses and move on to miniatures, board games, or something else.

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Part of what you are referring to is built-in obsolescence. By that I mean WotC is going to purposely release a new or highly revised version of the game every few years. That is what helps to generate sales, i.e. $$. Also, they might actually build in things that need to be 'fixed' in order...

    Remembering STAR TREK Roleplaying Games

Speaking of Star Fleet Battles, I enjoyed the Starship Combat Simulator game that was also put out by FASA Played that game several times, too.

    Remembering STAR TREK Roleplaying Games

I bought the original FASA boxed set Star Trek RPG when it came out in 1983. I bought many of the adventures and supplements to that game. I ran a Star Trek campaign in college using that system and it went fairly well. I even revisited it briefly close to 20 years ago with some of those same...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Missing from 5E?

Agreed on all counts. However, the question always becomes "how much more?". When is it too much? There is a sweet spot with everything in that you need enough to make it good, but too much will spoil it. A bell-shaped curve, if you will.

D&D 5E (2014) Horde of the Dragon Queen minis list

For cultists, we have used either a variety of old WotC DnD figures (individualistic), or the new Pathfinder Lost Coast Lamashtu cultist figures: http://www.pathfinderminis.com/gallery15.htm

    D&D 5E (2014) What would you play?

Based on what I have seen from 2 monks in our party so far, I would say a half-elf monk. Other posters have already made some good arguments for this choice. I think the archetype you should choose is another discussion all by itself.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

A little bit, but I think mostly the ki power points and getting 2 attacks per round have made the difference. One monk uses a short sword, the other uses a quarterstaff. Plus, I think big fighter types tend to be a magnet for bad guys who want to be sure and take out what appear to be a...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone have any experience with Monks?

Short and sweet: I am playing in a 6-member party, 2 of which are human monks. So far at levels 1-2, they have been the most powerful/durable members of the party, including a human paladin and a human barbarian. Tip: be sure to have a good weapon for low-level fighting.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starting a 5E campaign - any tips from 5E "veterans?"

My one suggestion: do not use Horde of the Dragon Queen as your introduction to 5th edition.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

Well, after viewing the UA document and reading all of the posts in this thread, I decided I would finally throw in my 5 cents. 1) I am fairly disappointed with what WotC released in the UA for Eberron. I have seen better home-brewed posted information in EN World than what WotC put together...
