D&D General Is Seven Abilities Too Many for a D&D Feel and/or Comfortable Generation?

Unfortunately, I think the mods are half the problem.

D&D General Is Seven Abilities Too Many for a D&D Feel and/or Comfortable Generation?

Yeah, I don't think so either, but it's the best outcome I can think of that continues WotC's current trajectory. They're already mostly vestigial. My other suggestion would simply be to abandon WotC's take on ability scores and go back the TSR methods. No linear bonus scaling, no...

D&D General Is Seven Abilities Too Many for a D&D Feel and/or Comfortable Generation?

So I would ditch traditional ability scores altogether at this point. They don't really represent anything meaningful, nor do the scores themselves have any utility. Just get rid of them, and work on the assumption that all PCs at a given level and class have roughly the same level of...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races: Evolution, Fantasy Stereotypes & Escapism

So the people who were replying to you were talking in terms of primitive technological levels, but I think that it wouldn't be too far fetched to also use the word when referring to less advanced - or seemingly so - societal organizations. That is, societies that are largely engaging in a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Peasant Revolts in 5e

Hmm... good point. Using wizards as ammunition could have its downsides. Maybe if they use featherfall at the end of their trajectory?

How much does it cost to get a trebuchet?

D&D 5E (2014) A Compilation of all the Race Changes in Monsters of the Multiverse

I don't agree with that. It's a perfect match for losing ability scores, if that was a direction the game decided to take, but otherwise, you have two things serving similar purposes that can be at odds with each other, which is kind of the worst of both worlds IMO.

D&D 5E (2014) New Organization of Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse- but not really

This all just seems like a lot of unnecessary flipping of pages to get to what you want. They should just skip all that and order monsters from best to worst.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races: Evolution, Fantasy Stereotypes & Escapism

I took it to mean that fantasy is not reality, and so arguments do not have equal weight in each. That there are lines that people won't cross in either should be obvious, but that they should be the same lines regardless is not. To take your argument to the other end of the spectrum, even the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Peasant Revolts in 5e

I suppose it depends on the setting and the nature of the god. In the real world, people with ambition and a certain ethical or moral flexibility tend to rise to the top. If we assume that holy power is given to those who fit a given god's ethos, then as the organization of a given faith grows...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races: Evolution, Fantasy Stereotypes & Escapism

Just as an aside, I'm not familiar with Greyhawk, so it's probably different(I think they follow the old MM high/grey/wood/etc lines), but in Forgotten Realms, at least, sun elves are bronze colored, which is closer to black than white as far as skin tones go. Moon elves are the pale colored...

D&D General Dungeons and Dragons music!

Depends on the vibe you're going for. For example, for something kind of vaguely dark feeling, I recommend Susumu Hirasawa's stuff a lot. His music was a heavy influence on the manga Berserk, so take that as an indicator for the feel it give off.

D&D General Making worlds for classic dungeon crawling campaigns

I was going to post something similar, but I'd go a step further. I'd go with a more or less complete apocalypse, all intelligent life wiped out as well as domesticated and stock animals that were anywhere near civilization. Some few mortals ascended to godhood while trying to stop the end of...

4 Reasons Black People Don't Play Tabletop RPGs

Given that I've seen religious schools with a ban on dancing, it's not hard to believe that going to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe Demonic Invasions would be beyond the pale to certain points of view

    D&D 5E (2014) The Quest to Reduce "Sameyness" (+)

I don't think that's necessarily true within the scope of this topic though. Another way of phrasing what OP wants is "how can we make each class distinct?" It's a separate question from characters, because there are a number of ways to make characters themselves unique, not the least of which...

D&D General What rule do you hate most from any edition? (+ Thread)

Not that I suspect them of using loaded dice, but I've seen enough people with dice set aside for specific types of rolls in my AD&D days to know that wouldn't stop someone if they were inclined to try.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Quest to Reduce "Sameyness" (+)

I believe that when people talk about DMPCs in the negative, they're usually referring to either the stage hog or plot helmsman varieties where the DM ends up taking up the spotlight (because the NPC is so awesome) or essentially makes plot decisions on the players' behalf, leaving the PCs as...

    D&D General Blind Monk

Eh, depends on the type of game. I had a blind character in Vampire: Dark Ages that was essentially useless in a fight, and I had a blast with him. I think it would also be interesting to play a blind wizard and go through the spellbook, eliminating every spell that requires sight to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Quest to Reduce "Sameyness" (+)

I disagree with this so much. If anything, more classes should be like the warlock, built to suit a certain thematic flavor, and the warlock itself should be built even uniquely suited to its theme, treating the pact as an ongoing mechanical consideration instead of essentially relegating it to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in a sci-fi D&D

Almost any non-generic fiction is going to be focused like that. It's one reason why I think that a single class and a single design template (e.g. 5E full caster) won't be satisfying. It's also why D&D doesn't list a single novel or author as its inspiration. IMO you need to figure out your...
