So you're saying that it doesn't matter what the character was doing before becoming an adult/teenager, because his ability scores are already "imprinted" onto his very being from birth? It doesn't matter if as a kid he was training to become a warrior or studying to be a mage, he has his scores...

Characters don't have to be born with high ability scores. Unless you're trying to say that they pop out of the womb already with 18 Int or 16 Str?

Um, so? There are sports in college. And it's not like Con is useless to Wizards, or casters in general.

Isn't Con like the second most important ability score for a Wizard? At least that's what the optimization boards taught me.

I'm primarily interested in celestials/good outsiders that aren't cats (per se), but are cat-like in appearance. So, for example, Leonal is okay, half-celestial tiger is not. I need them as ancestors for cat-like aasimars.

If you can't handle complicated rules, D&D isn't for you. Personally I'll take complicated but more functional over simple/streamlined rules.

I like my PCs to be powerful, that's why I often give them some kind of power up, like a template, for free.

Well, personally I think that's a perfect opportunity to familiarize myself with it.

When it comes to this threads title, I prefer to just say "No". As for balance, I simply help optimize the weaker PCs and try to make it fun for everyone regardless of power (unless the stronger PCs are cheesed out, in which case look above). So basically I suggest trying to be a better DM.

Faiths And Pantheons do have DRs, but only for major deities.
