How do you use the "Trivia" ability?

I'm afraid the only answer I can give is too general to be of much help: "the character recalls some useful info." Maybe you could translate that into a dice roll modifier for a relevant skill. "Oh, all these old Chubb safes use a triple tumbler." Or maybe you give a clue for a puzzle. Or...

How do you use the "Trivia" ability?

I agree. I've been thinking about when to and when not to make rolls a lot lately. All for my homebrew HERO System that I'm muddling out. Fewer rolls is better. It's faster. It stops parts of the adventure being gated behind rolls. Yeah, but one of those minds is Derek.

How do you use the "Trivia" ability?

So it's linked to what a character may or may not have encountered in thier life?

How do you use the "Trivia" ability?

I'm in 2 minds about this. A general knowledge skill can be handy for letting players know stuff their characters should know. But if the characters should know it, why not just tell them? Why roll? Especially if all the PCs have the skill, because then there's a good chance that one of them...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah. There's no doubt that any such attempt* would have to fight against Paranoia's existing game culture. I'd only try it with my current face to face group, none of whom have ever played it. In fact, I don'tthink any of them have ever heard of it. *which honestly, I doubt I'll ever actually...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, I think you're right. Horror is always hard to pull off. Add in the fac that it's Paranoia and it becomes a real big ask for any group. Ce la vie.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've sometimes toyed with the idea of running a serious Paranoia game. Play all the tropes straight for horror.

Something like 90% of the Australian populaiton lives within an 100km of the coast. And most of that 90% live in 5 big cities. Note, that we have a population of about 26 million. So that's a couple of million people spread out across an area approximately equal to 2/3rds that of the...

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

Hmm. Judging by the evidence... No. No I will not buy the new edition if haven't had my fill of the old edition. Somehow this is surprising to me. 🤔

I figured that would be the next argument. You know, start broad, narrow the focus. That'd be the sensible, logical way to have the discussion. 😉
