Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

4e Justice Warriors? Your opinion was already pretty thin on credibility, but there goes the rest of it. Rot grub indeed.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use the flanking rule?

A lot of 4e powers are based on the movement of yourself, allies, and enemies in melee combat in order to flank and gain Combat Advantage (or avoiding being flanked and granting CA.) I'd say it's the heart of the combat system. I would recommend using the +2 to hit for flanking in 5e. Advantage...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use the flanking rule?

Do you just flip a coin? Heads PCs win here's some treasure, tails roll up some new characters?

Minis or Theatre of the Mind? (Survey)

These results are very, very interesting.
  5. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) What are people hoping for in Monk UA?

I absolutely love the Sumo idea. Which lead me to my next thought= MMA is so popular now. Why not have a grappling choking knocking people out MMA monk?
  6. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) What are people hoping for in Monk UA?

Yeah I think there are a lot of ideas like that which could be mined for fun subclasses.

D&D 5E (2014) What are people hoping for in Monk UA?

Wuxia Weapon user Drunken Master DBZ/anime energy user

Minis or Theatre of the Mind? (Survey)

We used to do that. That's exactly the same conceptually as using minis on a battlemat though.

D&D 5E (2014) Your one best piece of GM/DM advice?

This I was just thinking about this as I prep for a new game. I'm looking at all my random adventure/NPC/world detail notes from over the years and thinking "God, I have so much fun stuff in here I've never used. What am I saving it for?" Good advice.
  10. The Human Target

Minis or Theatre of the Mind? (Survey)

When they start making a game where everything isn't measured in precise distances and knowing exactly where your character is located isn't often the difference between life and death, I'll start running games purely TotM. Actually, that's a lie. We used visual representation (a much more...

D&D 5E (2014) Next up is Fighter, what do you want from UA?

Three interesting sub-classes, without a single bit of magic. Say a marksman, a duelist, and a super heavy armor tank. Or three types of warlord.
  12. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) What are the roles of paladin spells?

That's exactly the problem. Paladin spells are wasted space and awkward design. You pretty much always burn spells for smites, except for when you need to heal. Why bother with a spell list? Just have a smite pool with extra effects to choose from as you level and a decent lay on hands ability.

    Any good dedicated 4e forums?

    RPG.net has a pretty active 4e community.
  14. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) I need to increase my strength with a wish, what should i say?

"I want to be as strong as an ox." Foolproof.
  15. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think they will go back to driders being a curse instead of a blessing?

Maybe drow care more about power than being pretty? Maybe some of them are crazy religious fanatics?
  16. The Human Target

    Cut scenes in your RPG

    Whatever you say.
  17. The Human Target

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I have tried them and want to add them in more next campaign. Keeping them short is good advice, as is adding in the players as actors in the scene if it's going to be longer (and you have some actor type players.) Trying to make my game more cinematic in different ways has usually only made...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you generate ability scores for PCs?

So ability scores don't matter except they really do matter and point buy/arrays make characters cookie cutter because of that?
