D&D 5E (2014) How do you regain INT after an Intellect Devourer attack?

I think the fact that it's still a possibly devastating monster to a much higher level character shows how potent it is, especially vs a level 2 party. But this is a subject that has been discussed to death in other threads, I shouldn't have even brought it up.

D&D 5E (2014) Enforcing theme/structure by saying NO to players

Yeah I think the reason FR is so popular is because it is bog standard D&D with specific details. Most of the other settings are Like D&D But <insert difference here> settings.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you regain INT after an Intellect Devourer attack?

If nasty equals utterly ridiculously overpowered, I agree.

D&D 5E (2014) Enforcing theme/structure by saying NO to players

I long ago realized forcing people to play to my preferences or to play though my half baked idea for a fantasy novel was a recipe for disaster. Games work best when they're a co-operative group experience, even in regards to world building. Want to be a Goliath druid/assassin? It's not my...

D&D 5E (2014) Five new players. 1st level PCs. First monster they meet is...

I mean kobolds and skeletons and goblins are classic. Whatever they are, just make sure it isn't a meaningless fight. Give it some character and a purpose.
  6. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

In a game that has a rule in which a nights sleep brings you back up to full hitpoints, there is no need for a compromise.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

Nicely put. My issue is this- you can easily create a system for people who prefer to let randomness shape their character without actually having totally random ability score rolls. I dint know why D&D just doesn't do that instead. Characters can be random/point buy/array all together in...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4d6 Drop the Lowest Etiquette

I rolled so highly for my character in my first 5e game I voluntarily lowered them and was paladins was still an absolute monster. I handle it in my home games by not having had my players roll for stats in more than a decade.

For 4vengers: What is your preferred fallback edition?

5e for sure. It's designed to be tolerable to anyone who plays any version of D&DD, and its pretty successful at that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Recharge powers

It's an interesting idea I'd be fine with if it was baked into the game by default, but adding it on now seems difficult. Monsters had recharge in 4e because daily and to a point encounter powers are kind of wasted on a creature that 99% of the time wouldn't last more than one encounter anyway...

    D&D 5E (2014) Divine Smite CRITITAL HIT

Break the game, no. Poorly designed, yes. It's such a powerful ability a lot of the time your spells are never going to get used.

D&D 5E (2014) What classes do you want added to 5e?

Bring em all on! No need for the same old same old. I'd be fine with many of them being subclasses, but they don't seem to be coming either.

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

Yeah even with limited Vancian magic the D&D world would be super different than the pseudo medieval beast it is, unless casters were super rare.

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

How do you think they make two-bladed swords?

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

We actually thought spellcasters needed their implements to cast at all in the beginning of 4e. Yeah the DM can (per explicit rule) decide that being incapacitated in some way prevents the use of abilities. You don't need a free hand though, in the sense of other editions anyway. A wizard can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

Neither of those things are true.
  17. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle Commoners in your game?

I tend to roll 1d6 to see if they have a bonus in a particular area if need be.

    D&D 5E (2014) Confession: I Sometimes Miss Vancian Casting

I have a restraining order against vancian magic.

    D&D 5E (2014) What about a Shapeshifter class?

Upon further thought, I'm in it. A shapeshifter is if anything more represented in fiction/myth than a guy who plays magic guitar or shoots magic missiles.
