    D&D 5E (2014) Burning doors with firebolt

I mean, Firebolt does say that it ignites flammable objects that aren't worn or carried. I think people are glossing over that part. It's still a goofy idea most of the time, but I get why the confusion occurred.

    D&D 5E (2014) Burning doors with firebolt

It does less damage than whacking the door with an axe, and would take a really long time to burn a door to ash. Also it would be incredibly unstealthy due to light/heat/sound/smell. Pretty terrible idea most of the time, all things considered. Easier and faster to kick it in, stealthier to...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock in party with Quasit breaking story

All I came to say is, you aren't being a bad DM and shouldn't feel bad about having the problem. Stuff like this is a real pain and can really mess up a game.

    Making a gunslinger character

    Ranger, no doubt.

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Yeah I think a low to moderate power X-Men style game is the beast/easiest way to go.
  6. The Human Target

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

    1) Superhero movies haven't increased the sales of the comics they are based on. 2) RPGs are niche, but superhero stuff is decently popular in that niche. There have been a fair amount produced over the years. 3) The genre conventions of superhero comics are difficult to build mechanics...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

I don't care what they call them, but I definitely think shapeshifter and nature magic guy are both worthy of full classes. Animal companions should have nothing to do with a specific class.

For the record... 18 feats. 4 of them deal with bonus actions.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Get Better At Skills With These Feats

Oh I didn't mean to imply double proficiency isn't a great feature. But at the end of the day, its just more numbers. Double proficiency kind of like the skill version of the +10/-5 combat feats. And that to me is pretty boring. But if Brawny is for grapplers, why isn't it called Improved...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something about Conjure Animal

Yeah, its not your fault. The design of these spells is very clumsy and not fun at the table.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Get Better At Skills With These Feats

Well, you have another big problem- proficiency in a skill isn't by itself a huge bonus, making being trained in a skill not really very impressive. Especially at lower levels. These feats do solve that.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Get Better At Skills With These Feats

They all share a +1 Ability Score and proficiency/double proficiency. These are solid but boring numerical bonuses that really limit what the rest of the feat can do. Acrobat- If your DM uses difficult terrain I think this is useful. But really pretty dull. Animal Handler- Okay. Though I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Yeah, that's why a wide level range and a sandbox don't really work.

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

It's always shocking to me how many people that are hardcore into D&D also seem to hate many of it's component parts. "I love D&D! But I hate dwarves, monks, halflings, bards, dragonborn, bastard swords, vancian magic, dark elves, regular elves, color coded dragons, feats, pencils and paper."

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

How are they sillier than most of the other stuff in the game? Music magic has way more real world precedent than Magic Missiles.

I would much rather have none of these superfluous subsystems and use all those words spent on them to give me cool ideas to use.
