D&D 5E (2014) Why do we need saving throws?

    SYATD then. Like THAC0.

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we need saving throws?

I would be fine with the name changing to Saving Your Ass Throw of the Die.
  3. The Human Target

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we need saving throws?

Now the name itself is bizarre. Why call it a throw instead of a saving roll? And why saving? You save yourself from falling, you don't saving yourself.

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we need saving throws?

Don't they have to do that anyway? Attacks require looking at numbers and damage tracking.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Int 8 Party: A Solution?

Yeah, it's still the worst. Most of that stuff is basically flavor text your DM will probably tell you anyway. Almost none of it is super vital 99% of the time. It's the worst ability score by a country mile.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Int 8 Party: A Solution?

It's a -1 to your roll below average. That's nothing.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Gives You Subclasses For Monk, Ranger, and Paladin

A paladin with AC 12 and a simple weapon is going to be hard to keep alive until 3rd level.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Gives You Subclasses For Monk, Ranger, and Paladin

In real life, sure. In real life people intoning nonsense words and waving their hands about aren't actually casting spells. But in the game they are, because it's a fantasy game. Why not embrace the fantasy?

    Encounter balance help

It should be tough, but I don't think too tough.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Gives You Subclasses For Monk, Ranger, and Paladin

Why make a drunken master that gets no benefits from drinking and doesn't really do anything fun? They seem to have made a "realistic" drunken master. Which is boring.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hate ASI's ?

Why do you care what numbers people have on their sheet?

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Takes On Theurgy & War Magic

They really needed some magic feats.

Unearthed Arcana 5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana

Looking through it. So far it feels like most of the playtest stuff. A bunch of half baked ideas, mechanics, and flavour text mashed together with little rhyme or reason. There's just more if it it. Who thought "You know what should be a psion-sorry I mean mystic subclass? The Wu Jen."

    D&D 4E Favourite 4e-inspired games?

I certainly think it takes some notes from 3e, in regards to characters all being competent and have mechanical heft to them. The powers are formatted differently and use a different resource set up, but they exist.

    D&D 4E Favourite 4e-inspired games?

Honestly, 13 Age and and Strike are really the only games that really feel even sorta 4e to me. Radiance definitely has some 4e-ish stuff. In your situation I'd just play 4e.

    Dark Sun 4e

Yeah if you want psionics get PHB3. Dark Sun specific monsters grab the Dark Sun Creature Catalog. You don't really need anything else, nothing from 2e unless you want it. I'd recommend the PHB2 as well, but you don't need it.
