Here's VIN DIESEL Playing That D&D Game!

Weird. I liked that he was the only one not hamming it up. Probably because he's a film actor instead of a voice actor. Maybe voice acting requires more exaggerated accents and expression. I could never play in a group like that. It's way too much.

    D&D 5E (2014) How does one publish an adventure/quest?

You can say "3 orcs are guarding the lair." You cannot reprint the orc stats from the 5e Monster Manual, refer to the Monster Manual, or probably even mention the orc's "aggressive" trait. You cannot sat "3 mindflayers lurk in the chamber beyond the door." Rule of thumb: assume you have to...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do you play 5e? What game did you come from?

2e in high school. . . ten year gap until 2004. . . 3.5/4e/PFRPG/OSR/5e When I got back into AD&D, it wasn't called AD&D anymore, and there were a ton of new features. I'd completely skipped over 2.5 with the Skills & Powers books, and early 3e, and fell right into D&D with a bunch of...

RPG Evolution: Is the OSR Dead?

Red and Pleasant Land and Vornheim are both amazing books. I'll have to check out those other ones you mentioned.

    Out of the Abyss

5 out of 5 rating for Out of the Abyss This is the first 5e module I actually bought and I'm very impressed. Looking forward to running this game soon. It's very sandboxey, a huge plus, has great interesting characters, another big plus, and really mixes up our old assumptions of the...

    Is the "Conpocalypse" Nigh?

I've lived in Minneapolis for over 10 years and I haven't been to Con of the North yet either. I plan on GaryCon this year too, and maybe it's finally time to give Con of the North a shot.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to tear a pc's arm off?

I really like the magic item angle. Maybe it's a relic of a god or saint that the dragon is safeguarding. Maybe like all true relics, it's a body part of a saint. The hand of Saint Soandsostus, which when touched by an undead replaces its hand, and will act on its own initiative to only good. It...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

Here's what I think should have happened (not that I mind how it actually went down - 5e is great in my opinion as-is): The Basic D&D book, including character creation, is included in the Starter Set. In that book, they include the basic general Fighter (all 20 levels). They also publish in...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

After reading through the Southlands material, I agree with the review that pointed out that the races look like Pathfinder conversions, rather than straight 5e race creations. The racial variants introduce an entirely new (and I'd argue overly complex) subsystem to 5e. The racial variant has...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

Glad I got my copy already! I'm hoping this doesn't cause them to delay more 5th edition-compatible content. I really like the Midgard setting, and I'm hoping to see more from them. In particular I'm hoping to see conversions of their older material. I'd especially like to see the Zobeck and...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

I just picked this up. I haven't dug deep into it, but I think it looks like some very interesting options. I may have to tweak a few of the character options for my game, but this is really great for me as a DM to offer my players some more options.

    Who Makes WotC's Adventures?

Sometimes fans can be the worst to the people who make the things they love. I think it was cool to get a little glimpse behind the scenes from Jeremy Crawford, and I think a lot of fans are being unnecessarily harsh to him and WotC. Working with an established, trusted team of freelancers...

D&D 3.x 5E's Initial Raw Sales Numbers Stronger Than 3E's!

I wonder what impact Christmas sales will have on the PHB. I think many groups have a PHB, but Christmas might end up with more copies in groups.

D&D 5E (2014) PHB is #3 right now on "Amazon's Hot New Releases"

    D&D 4E Converting a 4e skill challenge to 5e: looking for suggestions...

I think a skill challenge was kind of like the outline of a series of tests/trials/quests. The missions in Tyranny of Dragons could have been combat encounters and skill challenges. I'd take the skill challenge as a rough outline, and then find a way to flesh it out. So outline the scenarios...

D&D Still Leads ICv2's Quarterly Hobby Game Rankings

I wonder if it helps the industry that it's pretty easy to convert Pathfinder & 3PP over to 5e? I'm regularly buying OGL/PF/3PP adventures and settings and converting them on the fly to 5e. I'm definitely buying more Pathfinder to convert with 5e than I was with the BECMI game I was running...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some things I don't care for in the D&D culture

I personally think the D&D group defines the experience, regardless of edition. To me, new players almost always make for a more fun group since there is a greater sense of wonder and imagination. They are also more immersive since they don't know all the rules. It also helps me meta-game less...

Congratulations to the 2015 ENnies Nominees!

I'm very pleased to see the multiple nominations for A Red and Pleasant Land. It's by far my favorite RPG book this year (and I love the new 5e stuff by Wizards, so that's saying a lot). It's also among my favorite RPG books ever. If possible, buy the print version. It's a beautifully crafted book.

AD&D 2E Are all my 2E books worthless now?

I'm actually kicking around starting a 5e Dragonlance game for my young nephews. Dragonlance just seems the perfect setting to me for 11 and 9 year old boys who haven't ever played an RPG before. I'd recommend Dragonlance Nexus 5e Conversions as a starting point. This Google + page might be...

D&D 5E (2014) Well played WOTC (or Free RPG Day 2015)

I think WotC should support Free RPG day for goodwill, to support the industry, and to support their new adventure. They could have given out a print copy of the PotA Player's Guide for free, or an adventure that ties into the larger story (much like their free encounters content). Obviously...
