Jonath Cailan: Jonath drops his bow and runs toward Keena, pulling the healing flask from his belt and kneeling quickly at her side. Smearing some of the blood away from her mouth and nose, he tilts her head back and, after ripping the stopper off the container with his teeth, pours it down...

    Is a bane weapon aligned?

Remember that not all demons have DR X/Good, though. Only the more powerful ones do, and, even then, the additional +2 enhancement bonus and +2d6 damage averages out to +9 damage, so that basically overcomes DR 10/Good, allowing your normal weapon damage to flow through.

Free puzzle: The room of runes

I guess my approach to most puzzles like this in D&D games is heavily affected by Terry Pratchett. In one of his books, he describes how the Machiavellian Vetinari walks down a secret passage in his palace, talking to himself about the various ways he's going to avoid each of the horribly...

But if you'd just made it a Flaming Shocking sword instead, then 1d6 would be subject to the target's Fire resistance, and 1d6 wouldn't be subject to it at all. Or, in other words: (1d6-5, min 0) + 1d6 >> (2d6-5, min 0)

    Regal (Royalty base class concept.)

It's actually not a bad class at all, all things considered. But, you misread me - I was just pointing out that Visigani's argument against the royal class didn't make any sense, given the prior existence of the Aristocrat class.

Free puzzle: The room of runes

In a more general sense, these are stones that crumble when the wrong person steps on them, right? And when you fall, you take a little bit of damage (so the pit can't be that deep), and can pretty easily be rescued to try again. So ... 1) Why aren't there any precrumbled stones? People pass...

Free puzzle: The room of runes

My thought process was: I can start by stepping on a 1 tile and then move to a 1 tile - Fibonnaci! No, wait, 1-1-2 works, but there's no 3. Okay, I can start on an odd-numbered tile or an even-numbered tile. Is there a path from the left to the right that passes over only such tiles...

    Chocolate dice

Okay, my XP comment in the OP is supposed to say, "The die that rolls a 1 gets eaten!" No idea why it only posted half of it. Anywhoo, when pricing these, I'd do it one of three ways: 1) Price out your materials to make a batch of dice. Figure out how long (including standing around waiting...

    Selling a spellbook

    First Level: 8 * (1 * 1) * 10 = 80 Second Level: 5 * (2 * 2) * 10 = 200 ------------------------------------- Total: 280gp Cost to the player: 140gp As for whether or not it is worth it, that's a really tough question. A wizard's spellbook is kind of like a giant Achilles' heel. If it's...

Forest of Doom - IC Thread

Jonath Cailan: As Keena collapses bonelessly to the ground, Jonath mutters to himself, "I hope the gods won't call this murder," and he steps into view of the window, draws an arrow of his own, and sends it into the building. Unfortunately, his aim is slightly off, and the arrow impacts on the...

D&D 3.x (3.5e) Stacking Special Abilities on Weapons

Given that you can very easily make a Flaming Shocking Icing Longsword, I have no problem allowing a Flaming Flaming Flaming Longsword. I'm not sure it's 100% by the rules, but it certainly isn't unbalanced (in most cases, it's weaker than the FSIL).

    Distrusting NPC Issues

To me, this is another outgrowth of the "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, a fooler can't get fooled again" [or however that goes] reaction to past DMs that also expresses itself as perennially orphaned characters. "Don't have families in your backstory, because the DM will just have...

Forest of Doom - IC Thread

Jonath Cailan: I like that your 1d8+3 damage roll nearly beat out your 3d20 damage roll. Hooray for strange probabilities! Jonath nods. "Aye - I don't think we should leave her here, either - I think we could, perhaps, convince the man to let her go. He seems like he could be reasonable...
