    Running a chase scene

It is a *fantastic* set of rules. You'll want to do some prep beforehand if you want to use it, though.

    Half-Orc alchemist

You have 1 bite attack - the better of the one granted by the alchemist discovery or the Toothy trait.

Forest of Doom - IC Thread

Jonath Cailan: Jonath watches his arrow slam into the creature, momentarily checking its momentum, and then the melee is joined. Hesitating momentarily, Jonath thinks about trying to force another arrow through and into the beast, but the flash of swords and claws is too chaotic, and he...

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

... which is a house rule. It's really as simple as that.

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

Of course not. But, presumably, you are playing with the PHB? Then, line-item vetoing spells from the PHB is a house rule. Similarly, including the SC is a house rule; line-item vetoing spells from the SC is another HR (or, depending on perspective, a modification of the HR to include it)...

    Maximize Knowledge

Originally in the Eberron Campaign Setting book, IIRC, and, yes, they were also included in the MIC.

    Maximize Knowledge

Yeah - they're one-shot items of varying strength.

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

In addition to kitcik's comments, if a book's available, it's available. If you're playing with the PHB and Spell Compendium, then those books are available, and the spells listed within them are available. If the DM wants to specifically limit certain spells, then he needs to make a house...

Forest of Doom - IC Thread

Jonath Cailan: Thanks! Jonath pulls an arrow from his quiver and sights along it, carefully leading the lizard-thing until just the right moment. With a snap, the arrow leaps from the bow, striking the creature. Jonath can't tell, from his position, whether or not the arrow penetrated the...

    Checks rolled for the players

That is the absolute weirdest complaint I have ever heard.

Forest of Doom - IC Thread

Jonath Cailan: Jonath's mouth momentarily opens in startlement when the goblinesque creature transforms and begins moving after Keena. A moment of hesitation, and he acts - hoping that the creature has not yet seen him, and won't be expecting his attack. Do I treat myself as invisible to the...

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

    Yes, you can houserule things.

    Does 4E do grappling differently?

Not quite. Being grabbed in SWSE makes it so that you cannot move, and you take a small penalty to attacks (-2, IIRC, and it may not apply to the character grabbing you; I'm AFB). Additionally, you need to spend a standard action to break a grab; doing so is automatically successful (and frees...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

For a campaign? Yeah, probably. For a one-off (such as you are describing)? Absolutely not. Also, I *love* that style of LARP, though I haven't been able to do it since college.

    Barbarian Rage Question

There are all kinds of ways to have fun even when character death is off the table. EDIT: And I can't XP Systole, unfortunately. DOPPLEDIT!: It's also silly because this is the way 3.0 worked. And then the designers realized it was a bad idea to put a death sentence over the head of your...

Did the Brits do it better?

No, they didn't, but their accents make it sounds like they did it better.

Praise and element or aspect of a game or edition you don't like.

Note: It's been a long time since I played RM (and, actually, I was playing MERPS which is based on it), so forgive slight inconsistencies! Rolemaster has a bunch of charts that you reference to determine what happens when you attack. You roll on your weapon's table, look up the proper armor...
