    Severing troll limbs

    Bwahah. Bwahahah.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

Because, plainly, hiding information from the DM is the best way to proceed.

    Severing troll limbs

I think it's probably fine, until someone decides to attack the arm. Or wonder why they can't sever a limb on every attack (dissociation warning!).

Legends & Lore 09/03 - RPG design philosophy

Not particuarly, no - but he has said some things about it that struck me as off. But that's not my point, and you know it, so ...

Legends & Lore 09/03 - RPG design philosophy

That's right; doesn't he know he isn't allowed to say anything that potentially disparages any edition other than 4th Ed? He really should have that straight by now.

    The Tragedy of Flat Math

ProTip: D&D exists to feed player egos and fulfill adolescent power fantasies.

    The Tragedy of Flat Math

What's the DM's goal? Are you showing how the PCs, having gone out into the world and gained power, are now far superior to the foes they once fought? If so, use the level 3 hobgoblin stats. Or, are you showing how the PCs, having gone out into the world and gained powr, are now facing the...

    The Tragedy of Flat Math

It made it so that the orcs that Dirk faced on the way to Vlad also required an 11+ to hit, but when those same orcs* try to stop him now, he can steamroll right over them Sure, Vlad's still a threat, but that's because Vlad's Dirk's nemesis; if Dirk could steamroll Vlad, it wouldn't look as...

    Spell Confusion

So wizards can freely pick their weapon proficiencies, now? Prove it.

    Magic Items...

I like items that run the gamut from "kinda basic" to "hella cool with weird powers." I don't see why having one precludes the other.

    Spell Confusion

... unless you've got more important things to learn and therefore do not spend your feats / skill points / build points / whatever you've got on armor proficiency. Or, maybe, you learn to wear light armor effectively. Congrats, you now have the mundane equivalent of the Mage Armor spell /...

    Spell Confusion

I haven't played a wizard in robes* in years, so the force of this argument is lost of me. * Except for formal state occasions, of course.

    Spell Confusion

Honestly, arcane casters being unable to cast in armor always bothered me. If spellcasting in armor, at all, isn't beyond the pale (and the cleric, druid, paladin, bard, etc. say that it isn't), then why is arcane casting in armor so hideously unbalanced that it needs all these special rules...

Classed Monsters in the Monster Manual

Depends on how well and often it is used (PC abilities tend to be more ... fidlly? ... then well-written monster abilities, IME), but sure, why not? :D

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

Allow me to rephrase. Replace "average DM" with "representative DM." I speak not to your competence, but to your extremely idiosyncratic approach. Essentially, you are arguing for a MM (etc.) which is useful only to you, and there is so little in common with what you use a MM (or an adventure...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

You are so far beyond the horizon of "average DM" that WotC would be mad, MAD, I TELL YOU! to consider essentially any of your input for 5E. (On this issue.)

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Because then they can tell you that you aren't really roleplaying, whatever the hell that actually means.

    New Sorcerors are too "vulgar"

So, Bards are forever relegated to being a multiclass Fighter / Druid / Whatever Prestige Class? Or are we allowed to move on, in some small way?
