    New Sorcerors are too "vulgar"

Sure - but why is that, necessarily, the sorcerer?

Rolling for Ability Scores or Point Buy

Ahah - thought that might be it. Wizards are, luckily for you!, the most SAD character class in the game. With a good Intelligence score (yours was okay, but not great; I like to start Wizards with 16 Int scores in PB - 17s and 18s are too expensive!), you can minimize the downside effect of...

Rolling for Ability Scores or Point Buy

What class? Also, PB value of ~19, BTW.

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I think the better phrasing there would be "enjoyment of chocolate doesn't exist except subjectively."

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Although this might not address all your concerns in all cases, Nagol, IIRC "Get Over Here" is a Melee Range 1 power. That means, it's only usable on someone adjacent to you to start with. So, if "PC1 moves away from the group towards his love. He is unwilling to risk further harm to his love...

Rolling for Ability Scores or Point Buy

All point-buy, all the time. I usually know what kind of character I want to play when I sit down, and being told "NOPE!" because the dice didn't agree this one time's annoying. One time, when I didn't know what I wanted to play, I randomly generated a character in a point-buy environment by...

Archer and Dual Wielder Specialties: What am I missing?

Are you speaking from a 3E perspective? Because in 3.XE, you can declare a full attack and then retroactively change your mind after you see the results of the first attack and, additionally, you do not have to declare the targets of your 2nd (etc.) attacks until just before resolving them...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

This says to the player, "Your character is bad at talking to people. If you try to give a speech, and roll low, I [the DM] will narrate it as you putting your foot in your mouth and saying something stupid or insulting in order to get to a fail state." This says to the player, "Your...

Cackling Manaically at the 13 Aug Legends and Lore

Just speaking personally, but given that I've always had access to a PHB, and that the spell descriptions are laid out, like, right there, I've never seen anything like "mysterious magic" from a spell in D&D ever. Artifacts, magical locations, weird monsters? Yes. Spells? No.

[Playtest 2] Background names and flavor seem wrong

Alternatively, it takes someone willing to bop you on the shoulders with a sword and call you a knight. I'm thinking, here of Ser Lancel Lannister. I also know (knew, really) a guy, in real life, who is a Knight of Malta (I forget the story of how he got it; something about being related to a...

    A difficult question

First, there was a great post by ... Hussar, I think? ... in a recent thread wherein he laid out why he thought the 2E->3E change was bigger than the 3E->4E change (IIRC, focusing on the fact that someone who knows 3E can pick up a 4E character sheet and play pretty effectively, while someone...

Why not combine the Fighter and Monk Classes?

No, he didn't - that's my point! The player went from playing a character who was an archer (who happened to be expressed as a Fighter) to playing an archer (who happened to be expressed as a Ranger). The character is the same - the metagame mechanics changed, but the character did not!

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Uh, you do realize that every time the edition treadmill speed of D&D is brought up and compared to CoC, etc., those competing rulesystems are vigorously defended as "not really being new editions; they don't really change anything; just errata; etc."?

Why not combine the Fighter and Monk Classes?

Unforunately, this is true. I still don't know why, but there are people out there who, when they wanted to make a character who was an archery specialist in 4E, and they were told that they should pick the Ranger class to do so, threw a fit and went home because they had to have "Fighter" on...
