GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Good deal. I don't recall playing Battlesuit but I did play a lot of Fantasy Trip (melee/wizard), Ogre and Car Wars. Nice to have that put to bed. BattleSuit.

GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Just got back from my ride thirty minutes ago and the first thing I thought of was GDW's Team Yankee, the First Battle rule set. Pulled it down and its hex but no dots in the center. Strike out again.

GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Went and looked up Star Fleet Battles speaking of Task Force Games. Maybe GDW? I'd swear it was 1970s wargame though and not 1980s. Ah well, Getting ready for an evening ride on my new motorcycle, so I'll have to search more later. lol Edit: BTW Points for having Universe and FASA's Renegade...

Sean seems like a nice guy and very bright, but his design outlook and what he enjoys are something that I don't care for.

I won't disagree on DF. I went all in on the Dungeon Fantasy Kickstarter and actually have two of everything that they released for it. That said, the power level (250 point start), the snarky munchkin-ism implied etc made it feel limited. I say this is a me problem because when I ran 2e/3e from...

GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Ok, now that's gonna drive me crazy. I seem to recall a few war/board games from the 1970s that made use of that type of map. I just don't know which company back then that did it, Victory, Wes End Games, Metagaming or Avalon Hill? SPI might be who did it, the more I think about it. Well, this...

GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Here's how I accounted for it back in the late 1980s and into the 1990s when it cropped up occasionally. "No". No fuss, no muss and very little thought required. If I felt expansive, I'd say, "no, modern day weapons are not in my current campaign. I've given you the races, advantages...

GURPS Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy (and beyond)

Ran GURPS as my main system from 1987 until 2000. Mostly 2e with early 3e. ( Don't care for later 3e or 4e) Love the system, still do. Just got tired of convincing people to want to play it after every military move or post military moves. I played loose with the 1 second combat as an aside, I...

    White Dwarf Reflections #26

I recall some using the ones that shot bb-sized rubber balls and some that shot plastic balls? Also dart guns were favored by a few. Personally those weren't my thing because they did one shot and you had to reload where as the bb-sized rubber ball and disc guns could shoot multiple!

    White Dwarf Reflections #26

Covers 12, 16 and 19 are three of my favorites. Also, Killer was pretty popular at my high school as well and I played it until joining the military and heading to Europe for a decade. Disc guns, water balloons and other creative means were common at my high school in southern California.

    Celebrating 50 Years of Chaosium!

I recently re-read seven of the books in the series. They're now out in e-format these days or most of them are. I found them still, entertaining, they are much darker fare compared to many science fiction books out there for sure. I need to snag the next three and read them as well. Been...

    Celebrating 50 Years of Chaosium!

My absolute over all favorite setting to run. I snagged it when it came out and ran it from 1981 until 2000 pretty much. First with RQ based mechanics and when I ran into repeated issues where players who were used to D&D and wouldn't embrace a skill based system with no classes, I swapped to...

John Kovalic Looks Back On Over Two Decades Of Munchkin

Right, they're waiting to put it up once all the backers get theirs. There were many complaints raised on Backerkit when the Big Boxes started appearing in the wild before the backers got them. So SJG pulled store front boxes for the time being, or in the case of Amazon stopped shipping more to...

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

The Hobbit was read to us in a class back in 1970, setting my interest in fantasy and science fiction and opening worlds of wonder from then on. My step mother took me to a game shop back in 1978 and that was all she wrote... gaming was a part of my life from that time on.

John Kovalic Looks Back On Over Two Decades Of Munchkin

Love the style of art John Kovalic does, simply awesome. I hope he continues to draw the cards for years to come. Part of the fun of Munchkin is definitely due to John Kovalic's art style. Kinda off topic but since it was mentioned in the article... I'm always confused when folks mention not...

John Kovalic Looks Back On Over Two Decades Of Munchkin

I also went all in on it and wasn't truly happy with the actual box this time around. It felt flimsy and thin to my wife and I in comparison to past boxes for their games. This big box was after all meant to be a holder of cards and reused, so to find the walls so thin didn't sit well with us...
