    D&D 5E (2014) Warlord as prestige class?

I don't think most fictional or historical characters can be identified by class at all - a few may come close, but most are rather more complicated.

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Maria of Pozzuoli. Maria de Estrada. Catalina de Erauso. Khutulun. Onake Obavva. Ohori Tsuruhime. Trieu Thi Trinh. Given that we're also not playing a historical simulation (except when it suits some people) we coudl also include a large variety of fictional characters - Red Sonja is jsut one...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

There are historical examples among the Celts, medieval Europeans, China, India, Persia, Arabia, Khmer, Dahomey, Vietnam, native America, Hispania, the Bulgars, and many, many others. They're not difficult to find. Add the fictional and mythological ones - we are talking about a game with...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

You don't even have to go to archaeology. You can do perfectly well with fiction, mythology and history. Scathach, Britomart, the Order of the Hatchet, Norse shieldmaidens, Skythian female horse archers, DFuchess Gaita of LKombardy, Countess Petronilla of Leicester, Agnes Hotol, the Arab women...

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

Tieflings as a weird near-human race with a reputation of being descended from strange magic effects would be much closer to "Old School Sword & Sorcery" than the elves, dwarves and halflings that are accepted as part of D&D. So are Warlocks in many ways. They're not classic D&D concepts, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlord Name Poll

Personally I think Captain is as satisfactory name as you'll find. I dislike Banneret as has been suggested in this thread; it implies too much about the setting. Wealdas, from the Anglo-Saxon, would have the same problem despite suiting my setting better.

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

Also power, considering the value of those attacks compared to higher level spells. Except that the Cleric also has ways to grant temporary hit points. And returns you real ones afterwards, which this hypothetical warlord doesn't. Also, in the fiction sense, the rallying cry is something you...

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

Temporary hit points expire at the end of the next long rest. That's the default rule. As such, the temporary hit points granted by the warlord shouting and the "real" hit points provided by the bard dancing at you have identical effects. There is no point in calling them by different names...

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

At that point the difference between temporary hit points and "real" hit points is just verbiage. They do exactly the same thing, but you use different words for one. What's the point? Edit: The people who are against the idea of inspirational healing aren't stupid; they're going to recognise...

Selfish playstyles and other newer issues with the game

If people try this, pick one that matches the genre, and don't say that it's to teach cooperation. The people for whom that's a dirty word will not appreciate it. Tell everyone it's to get them into the mood for the genre.

D&D 5E (2014) What classes do you want added to 5e?

Three versions I know of in BECM D&D, published in three of the Gazeteeers - two versions of Shaman and a Shamani class that was very similar. Lot of history to the class.

D&D 5E (2014) I don't actually get the opposition for the warlord... or rather the opposition to the concept.

I'm sure you've always regarded the idea that all classes should be balanced and should have similar amounts of agency as critically important. And that your posting history and future will show it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Fighters Still Suck?

A class that has extreme versatility is perfectly fair. A class that masters a particular area is also perfectly fair. When the two are combined in one class and it's proponents refuse to tolerate anything that reduces it's ability to be versatile and to be a master - that's not desirable by any...

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

Do you consider 5e to be almost entirely derived from 3e? Does that mean that it isn't staying true to the "D&D Traditions" as established in 1e and 2e and BECM? If it's true to those versions, why would the Warlord be unacceptable as a class in those editions?

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I'm not sure what your second sentence is meant to say, but unless the laws of Cormyr specified are absolutely irreconcilable with feudalism then there's little reason to think that it's not similar to one of the many different versions of medieval Europe. For instance, the prestige class that's...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D-ish novels?

Though it's worth mentioning that it's a basically a comedy. The sequel was "One Quest, Hold the Dragons", and I didn't like it so much. That's where the series ended.

It doesn't look like he's answered the question to everyone's satisfaction. See GMforPowergamers, and for that matter the total absence of any attempt to explain the total lack of physical effects from physical injuries other than, "Whoops you're dying, but don't worry I have cleric-in-a-can to...

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

Yes. And I'll do so if you can explain to everyone's satisfaction how someone who has suffered a whole series of physical injuries so serious that they need magical healing to cure can still fight, move, and perform the whole range of physical tasks presented to them with the same competence...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D-ish novels?

The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon. To some extent the others she's written in the same setting too. Probably easiest to get it with that title, though it was originally a trilogy.

D&D 5E (2014) Open Interpretation Inspirational Healing Compromise.

The Cleric and any other class using healing spells can just say that they use the relevant spell and hit points are regained automatically. The Warlord could do the same thing in 4e and the argument from it's proponents is that it should have the same in 5e. It is not acceptable to a...
