    Skills +2 bonus or +5?

How about not having bonus from having a skill? Lets say you can buy a particular skill (like climb) any number of times. Each buy gives you I rank. What do ranks do? For each rank you roll an extra d20 and at the end you simply choose the result from all the dice you rolled. There's little...

Combat Rounds: How Long Should They Be?

10 secons sounds perfect for me. Maybe they could create a system that has both short rounds and long rounds. You go with fights with long, 1 minute rounds until you need to get to specifics, then you can switch to 6 or 10 second rounds, and then back.

    Character Building (from DDXP info)

I would prefer an option to use two themes, at a cost. Seems more intuitive than creating a half-aasimar/half noble theme.

    Character Building (from DDXP info)

This is, at the same time, interesting and worrying. It's cool because looks like I will be able to create aasimars, durzagons, etc. with just human race and themes. On the other side, if I can only choose one theme, I won't be able to make an aasimar noble, because I must choose between either...

    Damage Equivalence

Well, if you have a single 1st level spell slot per day (or even three), I see no problem with that spell dealing 3d6 damage to a single target at 1st level.

D&D 4E What do you like about 4e healing?

Healers should be able to heal once per combat. Healing every turn is, to me, very unrealistic and unfun. (yes, even with magic - you don't see that in any fantasy movie or book).

    Reclaim the name of Paladin!

Totally agreed. Paladin should be a prestige class (or equivalent). From 1st level you should play a champion, knight, fanatic, or something like that.

    Damage Equivalence

It's probably low. It allows you to use social abilities against opponents who use languages you otherwise don't know, so there is some value. But probably not much.

    Damage Equivalence

True, I don't know how I could have forgotten that :hmm: Still, I don't think charm person will remain a 1st level spell. My gut tells me it will get moved to L3.

    Damage Equivalence

We do actually. We know fireball deals 5d6, which is ~18. That, to me, suggests that charm person is a high level spell (or a spell that can be cast rarely, like once a week or something, or a ritual with a casting time of 1 hour, or has tough component) Looks like HP and damage will be the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e fireballs

Out of curiosity. If this system was implemented in 3e, how do you think Fireball would look like? I think something like this: Fireball Evocation [Fire] Level: Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Long (400 ft.) Area: 20-ft.-radius spread Duration...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e fireballs

It shows promise. If every spell is described as having effects since its initial level up to maximum level available in the game, then casters have more freedom in choosing what they want to cast, and how powerful version they want to invoke. What they said about losing lower level slots for...

    Tweet gleanings

Does that mean it will be harder to find them in booster packs? :-S

    Tweet gleanings

Games Workshop does this with their warhammer franchise and from what I know, they are very popular books.

    Relevant Orcs

Because of simplicity. If I have one stat block to represent fighting orc, I can have another one for spellcasting orc and a 3rd one for an orc beastmaster or whatnot. In 4e I would need 5 blocks for warriors, and another 10 for casters and beast masters, just to cover players from level 1 to...

    Relevant Orcs

The problem with this approach is that you need a separate stat block for each of those versions (solo5, elite10 etc.). It should be doable with a single stat block (and looks like 5e is aiming at this).

    Ability Scores

I really hope that is the case with 5e. - For skill checks (or just noncombat checks) abilities will add half your ability score. - For combat (attacks, damage, abilities that depend on ability scores) abilities will have a separate way to determine modifier. Something like 0-3 = -2 4-8 = -1...

Starting the iteration at DDXP: Reimagining Skills and Abilities

So the players feel they are not in control of their actions? I would not play a game set up like this.

Starting the iteration at DDXP: Reimagining Skills and Abilities

I think an important change that will be introduced in 5e will be a divorce of checks from skills. What I mean by that is that you will have rules section that will explain what a swim check, climb check, bluff check etc. are. Those rules will not be bundled together with skill rules. Skills...

D&D 5E (2014) Skills in 5E. Do we want them?

What I want to see in 5E is to separate skills into groups, based on their importance in play. Group 1: BAB and caster level. If those were to become skills, they would be in this group. Skills like melee combat, ranged combat, combat magic, ritual magic, dodge, maybe movement, parry...
