    Age of Wonders

Spells, like other attacks, target a defense (Armor, Stamina, or Will), and then allow a save as an extra. Defenses are however slightly easier to beat than saves. So a character targeted by a spell decided if he wants to use passive defense or burn a minor action for a somewhat better...

    Age of Wonders

Preview I - Minor Actions At the early stages of rewriting the rules, I was wondering about unifying certain concepts already present in the d20 ruleset, as well as introducing some form of per-round currency. The idea came from iterative attacks - what if, instead of allowing more than one...

    Age of Wonders

Hello everyone :) Some of you might remember me from the times when 3.5 on top. It was a fun system but had some serious flaws. Still I and my friends played it, even if less and less as we got more annoyed at the complexity of the game. Then the 4e came and seemed like a fantastic thing at the...

    Magic the Gathering: d20 System

A question: how much of d20 ruleset are you trying to alter to go for mtg flavor? For example, do you want to keep vancian spell system because it's familiar to d&d players or do you want to change it to something like mtg card drawing becuase it's more faithful to the card game? I'm currently...

    Ritual Facilities

The idea itself is splendid but the math needs some work. 2400 gold for an "item" that gives +20 to some skill checks? Also, what's the point of the plus?

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Simplest solution - don't remove magic bonus entirely, let it still add damage (but no more attack bonus).

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Unfortunatelly this isn't entirely true. Look at skill checks in rituals.

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Precisely, because the proportions of boni are all different.

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

How could I not understand the point if I wrote the same thing you above on the previous page? No you don't. You hang on the idea that percentile numbers mean anything but they don't. Game doesn't use % resolution system, it uses d20 with modifiers. And modifiers remain constant - in your...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

    - paragon path utility power 12 - 2 paragon feats - improved (replaced) encounter and daily power - +1 to two ability scores - +24 hit points - +6 healing surge value - the sword he carries ;)

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

True, some, but at the 2nd page I posted what other things PCs gain when leveling beside number boni. And that's a lot. Why you ask. To put it plainly it simplifies the game a little, throws away unnecessary calculation when leveling as well as hassle with erasing half of the character sheet. It...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

I don't think that's accurate, I think the problem lies in the peoples perception and there alone. Under currect rules, if you are a 30th level and don't have +6 weapon, you will lag 6 points behind the number you are supposed to have. If you reduce (at 30th level) the PC attack bonus and...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Ok, I haven't considered that. But I don't like the idea of changing base chance to +-50% across all levels in all scenarios. This is taking things too far IMO as it makes the game..well bland. On the other hand, removing the +1/2 modifier from PCs and by extention reducing monsters' stats by...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

I know what I'm talking about. You on the other hand seem to be unaware of what my point is.

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Why would I want to do that? There is nothing wrong with my math, except perhaps wording. If it makes you more comfortable, I can rename remove +1/2 level modifier of monsters to impose a 1/2 level penalty. End result is the same.

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Does it matter what scale was originally used to create them? If you want to remove +1/2 level from players you have to remove exactly the same number from the monsters. (IIRC the +1/level for monsters was used to account for bonuses from magic items, ability increases, and feats.)

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

Orc minion lvl 4: +7 to hit Orcus: +21 to hit You were saying? :) To sum things up, IMO it's a great idea to remove the +1/2 level bonus. The game already makes a distinction between low-level and high-level characters (combat-wise), which is: - ability score increases (from +1 to +4 to all...

What if we removed the half-level bonus to everything?

I'm looking at MM right now so let's compare: If we remove +1/2 level from kobold minion (which is +0), its defenses will be: AC 15, Fort 11, Ref 13, Will 11 If we do the same to Orcus (half level is +16), its defenses will be: AC: 32, Fort 35, Ref 30, Will 33 Why are you saying the hit...

    Some random ideas

I don't think it;s a good idea to second guess the designers to determine if an ability/rule is balanced/broken.
