    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

you said "the fighter", not "a character that has, among other things, fighter class". So what out of combat abilities the fighter (class) has? Are you trying to b unintelligible on purpose?

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

like what? I agree with you, Falling Icycle, fighting classes should be sprinkled here and there with minor non combat abilities that enhance their flavor. For example, barbarians could have an ability to ignore penalties for riding without a saddle. Fighters could be better at forced march or...

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

I think the same should apply to other fighter abilities that have a list of choices (death dealer, etc.). Ideally, each of them should give one ability, as they do now, but also grant another one every 4 or 5 levels after that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

Haha! Yeah I totally forgot but I did that too a few times when I was a kid. And also I managed to succeed more than once, without being caught.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

Why? Because it should be a skill.

Sure, like an action that makes each ally within reach attack the same target at once. That'd be cool.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

But were they actually using them? In 6 years of both playing and DMing 3rd edition, I've seen ppl use disarm maybe once or twice, same with bull rush. Monsters bull rushed much more often though. That's why I'm very ok with disarm being usable only if you have that ability. Charging, on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

Charge definitely. Hard to comment because i don't know what's the deal with thief tools proficiency... but Disarm traps feat seems like its not required to disarm traps, it makes you better at it. Disarm I belive should not be accessible to everyone. It seems like something difficult to...

    D&D 5E (2014) The New Fighter

I also think this new fighter is a step backwards. Specializations are gone, and they were so cool :( They must be brought back. Reliance on feats also rubs me wrong way, as it harkens back to failed design of 3rd edition. Add to it rather weak expertise dice system and bland abilities it grants...

Thats for sure. Are you liking this idea as an ARM? This entire thread's premise falls under advanced rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Experience points are too fiddly for me.

I just thought of something. What if, for those who like OP don't want XP in their game, each character had a small list of things that he or she has to do before he or she levels up. For example, a fighter player might have to do each of the following at least once: - defeat an opponent of...

D&D 5E (2014) Experience points are too fiddly for me.

If there's no difference, why do you want elites put in the game that manages just fine without them? In 4e, elites and solos had their place because math scaled very quickly between levels. Not so in 5e. Much flatter math means that you can simply use a higher level monster instead of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

It would also make humans the worst race at 1st level. Because, unlike every other race, they gain their abilities over the course of 10 levels instead of right out of the gate.

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

In basic (where it's preselected), there's no difference between a feat and an ability. But there's difference in standard. Saying that in basic humans gain an ability, but in standard they can swap it for a feat is clunky.
