    D&D 5E (2014) Design your core races

As seen in another thread, almost nobody is content with how humans are right now presented in DDN. This thread is for folks like me who like to tinker with their game. Design your version of humans and post it here. Maybe we can get some nice ideas and show D&D design team what we really want...

Or superior skill training, in which case the other ability of humans should be something else than an extra known skill.

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

Sure it does. In standard game, you would get a feat (either any feat, or 1st feat from any speciality of your choice). In basic game, the feat choice for human would be preselected.

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

Totally. The idea from this thread to give them +1 step in skill die is also nice.

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

Its quite simple really. They become flexible because they don't suck at anything (all scores, for most characters, will be at 11+)

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

What if we expressed human flexibility as giving them, for example, +2 to two lowest scores. Would that be desirable by players?

D&D 5E (2014) Things through all the playtests I have not liked

Were those hits sword slashes or bullet holes? I doubt that - they were punches, kicks etc. right? Which would be some sort of subdual damage (3e concept), not normal damage.

D&D 5E (2014) The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

All of what you're saying is true. But that doesn't mean the game becomes more complex or less playable. Totally. I grew up mostly with warhammer fantasy roleplay 1st edition and kryształy czasu (polish rpg, very complex game by todays standards), and abilities in those game were much different...

D&D 5E (2014) The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

IMHO those compromises are, more often then not, unnecessary. Would a D&D game with 8 ability scores be less playable that a game with six? I highly doubt that. I'd say it's a sacrifice we make in the name of not liking changes.

D&D 5E (2014) Things through all the playtests I have not liked

Yes for minimum STR requirements for weapons, a very good idea. Maximum STR? Not sure, might be an unnecessary complication that will rarely affect the game.

D&D 5E (2014) Things through all the playtests I have not liked

Agreed. IMO this is better served as feats, or some sort of improve your race system of abilities. And while were at races - humans! Can we please have a balanced and interesting human species, and not humagods? Yeah, doesn't make much sense to me, with one exception - falling. So I'd keep 1d6...

D&D 5E (2014) The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

I agree with you that blindness is a bad example here, but I also agree with GSHamster that Wisdom, like no other attribute, suffers from a big disconnect between its components. Perception should definitely, in my opinion, be separate from the power of will. They simply have nothing in common...

    D&D 5E (2014) (no more) boring shields

Take two on shields. I read all your ideas and I decided to drop the original idea of bonus HP completly. Instead, shields provide simpler benefits as proposed in this thread. The Shields Name Cost Weight AC Parry Abilities Bucklers Metal 2 gp 4 lb...

D&D 5E (2014) Stuff from your favorite edition you DON'T want in Next

My favorite edition was 3.5. What I hope doesn't come back (from the top of my head) - reliance of many abilities, effects and spells on ability score modifiers - effects that modify ability scores, including poisons dealing ability score damage - xp costs of spells and item creation - economy...
