While it's not as entertaining to read front-to-back, the rulebooks are designed to be referenced extremely easily/quickly in-game. :) Keep that in mind, especially if you do need to look something up.

FWIW, two levels is enough to get you through something as long as KotS. It's a lot of content, really. Assuming 3 encounters per week, 20 encounters to level, that's 6 or 7 weeks to reach a point where you could level up to 3. And even then, you can keep playing, you just can't level up. ;)

I partly agree. On one hand, I'm glad there (seemingly) won't be an onslaught of random source books to have to keep track of. On the other hand, this feels like it's reinventing the wheel. While true, only being able to level up once is kinda lame ;)

FWIW, the original basic booklet only covered levels 1-3. It's also one of my favorite systems! :D I just have trouble seeing this as anything other than "here's two levels of 4e characters". Gah. :( I hope I'm sadly mistaken! Wonder what exactly will be in the Rules Compendium booklet, beyond...

I don't see why it wouldn't! A lot of the Dragonmark feats are pretty potent. ;)
