    Things that WOW didn't invent

I completely agree. I agree. I just wanted to point out that WoW is being used in a generic sense.

    Things that WOW didn't invent

WARs biggest problem is at it's core, it is a PVP game. There are an awfull lot of people who do not like a PVP game. Jsut look at WoWs server populations. WoW, is at it's core a PVE game. The PVP aspect is bolted on, and is not as good as the PVE aspect. The reverse is true for WAR.

    Things that WOW didn't invent

There is one point that I would like to make. WoW has done VERY LITTLE in bringing new things to the MMO genre. Virtually all of it was around BEFORE WoW. WoW just happens to do alot of it well, and to bring some of these together into 1 game. (That's not to say it hasn't, or hasn't evolved...

    Why I'm done with 4e

No houserulling really required. 4e has a section in the DMs guide to help you do stunts. If your group likes to do stuff like above, instead of powers, why not? After a few times of using that section, I am sure you will be able to not reference the book too much. I know some people...

Wizards in 4E have been 'neutered' argument...

Then pick a Sorcerer. Wizards have changed. Wizards are generalists, the other arcane spellcasters are specialists and do other things better. Wizards are not the do anything you want class anymore. They are more focused in 4E. They can do a bunch of stuff still, but if you want better...

Looking for a group in the Rochester, NY area

Any one in the area looking to join a group? My group needs a couple more people for a 4E game that is just going to start up in November.

Is it ever a good idea to hit the party?

It is OK with me, as long as it does not go against the casting character's personality that has been created. I don't like as much metagaming (even though it happens more than I like it to), so talking about it and getting permission from the players doesn't really appeal to me. However...

How many people are buying less books for 4E than previous editions?

I am buying less books. However, I am also a DDI subscriber, so I don't need as many books.

Yea, we do not use power cards either. We use the Character Builder and keep the powers on the sheets that they are printed on. We usually end up putting those sheets in one of those clear sleeves, and then using a dry erase marker to mark off wich ones are used if needed.

I am now a community supporter! I Have The Powerrrrrrr!

I am in exactly the same position as you and made the same decision. Moving to a monthly allows me to just not buy a coffee or something a month. It was an easy decision, where, I was never pushed over the fence with the other choices previously.

I agree. I think it takes away character and DM complexity, but adds a little gameplay complexity with conditions and powers (at higher levels). However, I think the complexity that is added, is alot less than what was taken out, so at least IMO, I am less complex overall. I also find myself...

    Favourite Classes through the Ages

1E: Thief/Illusionist - Loved it! I don't remember if it was even allowed, but we were kids back then, so if it wasn't I blame it on that. 2E: Cavalier - gotta love that class for the powergaming/munchkin kid back then 3E: Cleric - can do just about anything I wanted with one 4E: Sorcerer -...

I kind of disagree. I think they are needed. Wether you count them in rounds, minutes, or until your next action - they are needed. IMO the game will be worse off without those conditions, and problems would come up in lots of groups about things like knocking down, stun, etc. The problem with...

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

I am glad that you guys could do that in 3.x. For some reason, my group could not. I attribute it to 3.x actually. The more we played, the more that came out, the more rules people memorized, the worse it got. I think alot of my group got into finding ways to use the rules to their...

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

Well, that is the thing. Most of us started with AD&D (1st edition). That is the way we used to play, and that is the way we got back to playing with 4E. This whole Tee-ball stuff and intelligent conversation just isn't true. Not being so focused on the rules, have made our games better IMO...

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

This is the reason I like 4th edition so much. I DM about 1/2 the time. I like 3.x. I played it from when it came out until 4th edition. But in my group, the rules of 3.x changed the group to be rules lawyers by (IMO) encouraging the rule for everything mindset and the DM plays by the same...

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

Yes, as well as the following: There must be something wrong, they are hitting us way too much - explanation of class/creature abilies That creature/class doesn't exist That is way tougher than the rules say That is not what that ability does - it does this You have to play by the rules that...

Couple that with his signature, and I don't think that anyone is off base about how his views on the subject.

Do you consider 4e D&D "newbie teeball"?

I think they can. Having the Character Builder makes is way easier as well. I think that after 1 year, woth the additions in the game, that the above statement is false at this time. Now, say what you will about the requirement of the DDI, but your above problems have pretty much been...
