    Revisionist game publishing

But it still goes with the theme that I think trumps everything being talked about here - PCs are special and not like others of their own race. That specialness can be alot of things, including not having darkvision.

The Open Gaming License: Almost 10 Years Later

Thanks Jason. I did not remember the exact situation arouond it, but I knew you had started it before the GSL mess. In the end, if I was Paizo, I would have released it even with an OGL version of 4E.

The Open Gaming License: Almost 10 Years Later

No, I am not: From Wikipedia. October 2007: Jason Bulmahn began development of an updated system based on D&D 3.5, in part as a reaction to the waning support for the system in the wake of WotC's announcement of the upcoming 4E and in part as a reaction to the desire to improve on weaknesses...

The Open Gaming License: Almost 10 Years Later

That is what I am saying.... d20 systems will continue to be the norm I think for the forseable future.

The Open Gaming License: Almost 10 Years Later

I would like that to, but I doubt it. There is less work to do taking and tweaking the system than writing your own, therefore there is less R&D. I think there will continue to be alot of new systems that have this ruleset at it's base.

The Open Gaming License: Almost 10 Years Later

I don't think that is correct either. I may be wrong, but I remember reading that right after 4E announcement, when (whatever his name is) started thinking/writing what has become Pathfinder. If you really think that Paizo did not take advantage of a situation where they saw a portion of...

WotC Layoffs - Rob Heinsoo, Logan Bonner, and Chris Sims

I think there would be less scrutiny if this was not a yearly occurance. If the conpany was being run correctly why do they need a yearly layoff to be "viable". This happened when there was no recessions as well, so you can't attribute it to that.

WotC Layoffs - Rob Heinsoo, Logan Bonner, and Chris Sims

It is interesting to watch WotC. As far as I am concerned, regular yearly layoffs of employees is one of the worst things a company can do. Yes, layoffs happen, but they are usually sporadic, not an annual cycle that a company goes through enless your business is tied to some natural cycle...

How many gamers you know post in forums?

It is not that hard when one of the groups that I game with have been gaming together for 15 years or more. We are all good friends. None of them but me even read forums, much less post. None of them even knew a 4th edition D&D game was coming, until I told them. None of them have DDI...

How many gamers you know post in forums?

I should probably clarify my post - I read more than I post, and have really just started to post here. In my 2 groups (10 people total not including myslef), I am the only one who reads and/or posts. Sure, 1 or 2 may look at a forum post or 2, but it is becuase I have sent them a link to it.

How many gamers you know post in forums?

Out of the 10 other people that I game with, I am the only one.

How much does the system matter?

With the right group, the system does not matter. I have found that whith the right group, the system really does not matter. What kills games for me are people that get hung up on stuff way to much, constantly complain about things, and/or seem to just create problems. In the end, it is...

Were the 80s really the Golden Age of D&D?

It depends on what you mean by Golden Age, I suppose. Number of players, quality of material, etc. I would say the Golden Age based upon the number of people playing. This in turn created an awarness of the product that let it become known and viable for the toy stores to carry it. I...

Love it or hate it, 3e style

Mixed bag for me. I felt it empowered the players to much over the DM. IMO it encouraged rules lawyering and "winning the game".

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

We have a person in our group that is the same as you. To us, his arguments make no sense whatso ever. :p I encourage you to do what we did if you would like to continue to game with friends - let them play their D&D every 2 weeks, and on the other weeks you join in a different game - one you...

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

I agree. However, there is no real point in arguing over the rules with him. At this point, if they have been playing for that long and ignoring a big part of the game, then that is just their playstyle. Unfortunately, what it appears to me, based on his first post, is that for whatever...

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

"Most people that vote I hate it, probably have not played it since trying it 18 months or so ago..." I think you should re-read the part where I said people have tried it and did not like it and never revisted it. :p There are also people that read it and never played the game. Neither one is...

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

My guess is this will be like all the other polls. Most people that vote I hate it, probably have not played it since trying it 18 months or so ago, or have never played it at all. These people will not have tried it again, so their opinion has not changed. Most people that say I like it, or...

    Mongoose exits 4E ?

I am not sure I buy this entirely. I think many of these companies would have taken advantage of the edition switch to grow their business beyond the scraps that WotC was thowing them. The OGL was way to open for them not to. I think even Piazo would still have their Pathfinder system. Some of...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

And that is what I was saying. target another defense. I have not gone through their creatures to make sure they follow all the rules. I just go by what they print. Also, I don't remember as clear, but I remember reading about creature design in a blog or something from the devs that said...
