Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

I read them too. I think this is group dependent. How well you play off of each other probably works against 4E for some groups. Most of those talked about HP values though. It does suck to miss with your daily. How many of those misses though were really within 2 or 3 points though? You...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

What my point was, that it is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. For 1 year, everyone here played without this feat. I did not even feel it in the (limited) amount I played at Epic, there was just too many other things to negate it that it did not matter, but I have felt it get easier...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

I am not going to quote the entire thing, but thank you for this. It is exactly how I view it, although way better explained than I have done.

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

I agree they knew. I disagree that Expertise was planned. I think they decided in play that it did not matter, or they where happy with the design the way it was. But we will never know for sure. I think it was "fixed" based on some people wanting something to be done.

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

That is not my position at all. I think Expertise is not required to be viable, others disagree. So no, I don't think it really is anywhere near the probem people are making it out to be, while playing the game. For instance: Level 28 Sorrowsworn DeathLord AC:42 Fort: 38 Ref:41 Will: 38...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

I guess I am not going to get it? All I want is an example of a monster. I get you have said all monsters.

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

Can you give me an example of a monster that all their defenses are out of a reasonable range?

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

All the more reason why it should be more challenging than normal, IMO. It means more. I found it is harder to have a challenging encounter in previous editions. This edition lets me have challenging encounters, and easier encounters, IMO, easier than previous ones.

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

Yes, it is. The challenge is to use tactics and teamwork to work around or lower that high number. You don't see the value in that? Part of 4E was to make combats interesting, not just pawns, sitting in the same square rolling dice. Rolling a low number is not challenging, or knowing that...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

I would also add to my above comment, that when they were talking about balance, I am not sure they ever talked about players being balanced with monsters, or ever meant to imply that. If they wanted perfect balance, they would not be playing by different rules and the monster rules would be...

Does Expertise "Feat Tax" even matter?

Yes, becuase what your fighting is better and tougher than you. And there is nothing wrong with that. Part of the challenge is to survive the attacks - a kill or be killed type of senario. It is up to the DM to make adjust the encounter for his group.

    Edition Cycles and declining sales

They can use the online DDI component to change the game. Publish the errata, and use the errata to change the online information so that it becomes the new rules for people using DDI. Sure, it is different, but in this way, the game can evolve and take care of some of it's problems. They...

4E Situational Modifiers: Too Many or Not Enough?

I am hoping to aleviate some of the zone problems when I get my projector setup for gaming. I can totally see this, as we have had that problem as well. We use smaller printed cardstock tokens that we line up next to each other near the mini.

4E Situational Modifiers: Too Many or Not Enough?

They are about right, but hard to manage. We did the same thing and it has worked great. I think 4E gave more conditions than 3E (or maybe we just didn't use them in 3E as much). We have round cardstock markers for marking, cursing, and status (stun, etc) for the monsters that we put next...

    Is the math off?

I guesss that is where my group differ. We tend to NOT take those kind of weapons, for whatever reason. Also, for a spellcaster in 4E that seems to be good. I will try and remember that. It is funny, as I tend to not play overly optimized characters, but the DM (he plays an Archer Ranger...

    Is the math off?

Must have missed that one. Almost - when I roll an even number on Chaos Bolt there is a secondary attack on another creature. If I roll an even number on the secondary attack, I repeat the secondary attack! I can't attack the same creature twice with one use of the power. There is an area...

    Edition Cycles and declining sales

It is smoother. The more people that pay on a month to month basis, the more revenue on a month to month basis. As it includes the books, they will have less significant downs and ups in their revenue chart.

    Is the math off?

Hey! We agree! On those fights, the people that can choose a lower defense shine brighter than the ones that can't. I don't see a major problem with that either. Everyone is contributing, the Leader may be able to use a lower defense to make sure that the AC people get a better chance to...

    Is the math off?

I havn't played all the classes, but alot of people I know seem to think they are better designed than the PHB1. I like the Sorcerer for it's Wild Magic build. I don't think that there is another class that has the potential that this class has. I have just started playing a 1st level...

    Is the math off?

I understand, but there are an awfull lot of people that game to game, not to "win" the game. We also play Savage Worlds, and most of us have taken major hindrances - because it is fun to work around them. IME, most people remember the memorable fights becuase they had a disadvantage they had...
