House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

What's a good figure, then? To put this in context (and in case the text of the feat isn't clear enough!) you get the SR only against creatures with the Allegiance that you picked when you selected the feat. The setting is primarily monotheistic with a few "fringe deities" - the main deity is...

    Too scared to DM!

:P By the way: for anyone who's interested, here's the link to the House Rules thread for the swashbuckling game: http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86771&page=2 There's also a "rat bastard thread" ;) which I won't link here because my players need to stay out of it!!

    How to Heal Subdual Damage

From memory any cure spell heals all nonlethal damage as well as its designated amount of lethal damage. :)

Randomling's Dungeoncraft Diary (my players out!!)

I'm pretty sure that there is a "rest of the world" and various mainlands out there somewhere. I haven't developed them yet - the Hundred Isles are pretty big and pretty well isolated. There's another setting floating around in my head called Ch'Tarra, but that's not related to the Hundred...

Randomling's Dungeoncraft Diary (my players out!!)

Of course, there could be elements of that around too - no reasons that there couldn't be legends of Lost Islands, immortal power-games, and bizarre religious cults with their own reasons for why islands disappear! Mostly, we do have islands disappearing into the Grey Lands rather than the...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

Two New Feats These feats fit the flavour I'm thinking of to a T, but are probably a little bit overpowered. The Faith feat has a very strict roleplaying requirement, and will be a prerequisite for at least two of my religious classes (Chosen One and Paladin), so I want it to be cool. (Right...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

All right. Thus far, I'm leaning towards going with the D20 Modern base classes (Strong, Fast, Tough, Smart, Dedicated, Charismatic). Magic will be available through Advanced Classes and, to a very small extent, feats. I'm still working on the Advanced Classes, but here's a list of a few that I...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

Hi! :D Mhm, cool, that definitely fits with the feel I want. Again, that does what I want. As somebody said above, makes the Combat Reflexes/high Dex pairing a really really useful one. This is working for me so far! OK. Cool, that's useful to know. :) OK, excellent - definitely got a...

Randomling's Dungeoncraft Diary (my players out!!)

Diri - you're good, man! Thanks for all the ideas! All deeply cool ideas. I'm pretty sure that I know what's going on with the Green and Grey Lands now, though... Skip back about 15,000 years, way before Auros the Mighty gained his almighty power over all the other deities. There was...

Randomling's Dungeoncraft Diary (my players out!!)

Arcanists? Wizards and sorcerers you mean? Well, my original conception was that there were going to be ordinary wizards and sorcerers, as in Core D&D, but as I've developed the world things have changed. I'm now looking at using a modified version of the D20 Modern ruleset. Magic is going to...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

Not mine - it's a promotional quote for my own message boards! :o Genuine user feedback, too... On topic - going to have to track down that Dragon (yay for friends who collect them)... Going to have to do some rejigging of the d20 Modern base classes tonight and see where we end up, too.

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

That's a good point - and my rules fu is not that strong, so I tend to suggest things for flavour's sake and wait for other people to critique them. For what it's worth, though, I'm not sure what base damage doesn't get multiplied. There's sneak attack - but under what strange system would that...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

Hmmmm. Let's see. Taking a character of mine, Jez, who does 2d6+6 base damage (Str 16, specialized with a greatsword). Rolling her damage twice, I get 15, followed by 13. She'd do 15 points of WP damage, and 13 points of VP damage. Not bad - the WP is nearly enough to kill her there...

    Too scared to DM!

OK, I've officially gone from "this is a terrifying prospect" to "why do I have to do work instead of plan my game?!" I've started a couple of threads in House Rules to help me plan the game, and that'll probably be backed up with a resurrection of the old Hundred Isles thread that I started...

House Rules for a swashbuckling game?

Oooh, lots of ideas here! It looks like I'll have to pick up Skull & Bones when I have some money, if only for a looksee. Stormborn - I have (and love) d20 Modern and the base classes and starting occuptations from that would, with some modifications, work really well. I like a lot of things...

    Too scared to DM!

Oh definitely. :) Hundred Isles certainly isn't a setting where you're going to be warding off near-certain doom at every step like Midnight, any more than Borderlands is! Then again, not a Disney movie, either.... ;) Ogre Mage - GOOD LUCK! :D

Spellcasting classes for a rare-magic setting

I liked the nature-and-charm oriented spell list quite a lot. The SA Witch only has access to 6 spell levels (7, including 0-level, I guess), which is about the right magic level for me. It also gets a familiar - not too sure about that - and has weird weird metamagic abilities and spellcasting...
