    How Do You Learn Boardgames?

We kinda bashed our way through learning Gloomhaven, which made learning Frosthaven kinda an iterative thing. The fact we mostly play co-op games--stuff like Pandemic or Eldritch Horror--and TRPGs means we're used to handling edge-cases that come up. Usually, we have someone (or some ones) read...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I figured it was just because he was a bard.

You're a TRPGer, just roll some dice.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Working around different ... thresholds, such as around spicy heat, can be challenging. We could (and have) get a pizza with jalapenos on half of it; I've taken to seasoning food I cook differently--where possible, keeping track of which item is hers, and seasoning it less than mine. I still...

I might put bacon jam, or onion/garlic jam on it, sure.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That stuff, to me, isn't licorice--it's certainly not the flavor that makes me gag. It's not my favorite, either, but it's not horrific. Alas, I'm not a fan of any leafy greens, and how I feel about tomatoes as a topping will depend on how thoroughly they get cooked (I don't like raw tomatoes)...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I can't stand licorice at all, in any form. I can barely tolerate anise/star anise/fennel, even in contexts they belong. Jalapenos, pineapple, bacon/ham, onions. That's my own jam.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I like jalapenos on pizza, but my wife doesn't have as much tolerance for capsaicin as I do, so we don't do that much. I'm not normally a person to sprinkle red pepper flakes on my pizza, but I've come to appreciate Burlap & Barrel's Diavolo spice blend as a pizza sprinkle.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Licorice is an abomination, in any context. I could go with jalapenos and pineapple on a pizza, though.

    Cookin again

I wouldn't be surprised to hear of someone using butter on top of a burger--this is a thing I have a vague sense I've heard of--and especially compound butter seems as though it'd be nice.

I think the closest you can get is to purchase a "smart" TV and just not hook it to your home network. I gather they're working on closing that loophole.

What are you reading in 2025?

My wife and I make extensive use of our local library systems (we live in a place where we have ready access to four). This past Saturday I came home from the library with seventeen novels, it'll take me probably a couple weeks-ish to get through them.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Didn't he write essentially a self-caricature in "The New York Review of Bird?" (I don't know how to feel that I was able to pull that short story title out of deep storage, even if it seemed to take forever.)

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, he blew up a lot of professional relationships. Like, really a lot. That seems plausible, all the way around.

That's the one Harlan Ellison was associated with, right? I remember reading a thing he wrote about some TV series, and all his conflicts (shocking!) with the producers, and I think that was it.

Yeah, anything that leaves people stuck overnight seems like a bad situation.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

There was a thing in the DC area that was afterward referred to as "Commutageddon," when the snow A) was preceded by rain, to wash the melt-treatments off and B) arrived just as evening rush hour was starting. It took like eight hours for my friend and I to get home--and we knew someone who...
