    Options for arcane healing spells?

If: 1) Your Wisdom is at least 11 2) You have the right knowledge skills 3) You worship a god who has the healing domain 4) The aforementioned god's alignment matches yours You could take Arcane Disciple from Complete Divine and gain some healing spells. Edit: You are under my bed!?!

    Sacred Healing

I concur. Another example of a non-bonus that doesn't stack is damage reduction.

First time running a high-powered campaign...

Gestalt Hit Points For rolling hit dice, I recommend letting them roll the hit die of both classes and keep the better (unless you are already doing something more powerful). It makes tank/tank class combinations a little more competitive with other possibilities.

    Are dice perfectly balanced?

D20s that have the 20 surrounded by other high numbers are called "spindown dice" in my experience, and are used to track life in games like Magic: The Gathering. They are much easier to cheat with (never use them to determine who goes first!). You actually shouldn't be using dice to track life...

    An army country

Really? I am running Red Hand of Doom right now, and trying to decide what to do next. What were you planning on doing with this country, if you don't mind my asking?

    Selling D&D Library

I have a lot of those already, but I bid on your Eberron adventures.

    An army country

Back Home I split these out because I think they are all distinct and it is easier to read, but I can combine them if you/a moderator wish. Because the citizens spend several years in the military even in peace time, it is likely that slaves/(conquered) non-citizens are used in farming and...

    An army country

Classes! Here's how I think classes would work out (PH Only). I based the percentages off of the random NPC table in the DMG, adjusting for the poor ability scores of soldiers. If you have complete arcane, replace sorcerers with warmages: Barbarian (5%): Shock troopers, these open holes in...

    An army country

Levels! Sparta might be a little more militaristic then you want, but it is definitely worth looking into. I provide some numbers here as a starting place, but while I think they are reasonable, I just made them up on the spot. Due to their training, the citizens of this country should have...

    D&D Alumni Article on Devils

I thought it was very interesting how some of the devils changed physicallyfrom 1st edition. In 1e they have features which are very human-like (usually the head/eyes). In 3e many of them have lost their human appearance (though they generally remain humanoid). Examples: Amnizu: from a...

    Anti-gamer article

Replying this way a second time was simply sublime. I, too, wonder what she does in her free time, as she has realized that she is in control of her destiny. This seems non sequitur to me; If the evidence suggests something unflattering, perhaps she should consider that perhaps it is true...

    D&D-influenced Fantasy Novels

Indeed - though, my understanding is that the world came from a GURPS campaign the author was in; I think the other guy writing books now (Ian something?) was also in it. I also highly recommend A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen (ATotMBotF - 9 letters! We have a winner!). Gardens of the...

Why Are Warrior Women Never Ugly?

Hussar - I like the first picture, except for the face, which looks weird to me.

Why Are Warrior Women Never Ugly?

I think Todd's first drawing has the most attractive female in this thread. I think part of the problem is that when people draw super-hot women, they draw each part of them attractive individually, but the whole fits together really weird - they are out-of proportion. Each of their DD breasts...

    Opinions on gmail?

I want to write a sci-fi novel where google has taken over the world; it just makes so much sense to me. I find gmail to be excellent. A con is that you compose mail in the same window as you do everything else, so you need to make a new window/tab to compose mail if you want to be looking at...

Abreviated NPC Stat blocks: threat or menace?

Thinking about this more, the basic creature of each CR could instead be one creature of each type (fey, outsider, etc), each with a list of bonuses and penalties that could be added. The basic creatures could be constructed with the creature construction guidelines in the back of the monster...

Abreviated NPC Stat blocks: threat or menace?

I think this might be a useful replacement for all of the grunt-type humanoid enemies, but beyond that I am not sure. I've actually been toying with an idea like this, at least for simple enemies. For instance, if I want some displacer beasts, I wouldn't mind doing some cross-indexing and just...

What kind of hero do you prefer in fantasy/sci-fi? [edited thread]

To summarize: If the story is about a "wimp", don't substitute weakness for character depth. If the story is about a superman, don't substitute cool powers for character depth. So, I really agree with the people who said the writing is what matters, but if I have to choose I want a story...

What kind of hero do you prefer in fantasy/sci-fi? [edited thread]

Thomas Covenant annoyed me - it's been a while, but as I recall, he was a wimp, thought it was a dream but wasn't smart enough to realize what that would entail (he can't die!), etc. I don't mind characters starting out/being weak, but I think that sometimes (this is really true in movies)...
