In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

Again, the restoration of all hit points by taking a long nap is my problem. Would it surprise you to know that I can count on one hand the number of wizards or clerics I've played? In fact, I play rogues about 50% of the time, fighters about 25%, and monks about 15%. The rest are various other...

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

I'm glad to see we're reaching some sort of common ground. But cuts, while they will stop bleeding, won't go away for awhile. And they have a significant chance of opening again. Those are hit dice (or healing surges used outside of combat, if talking 4E). Those uses don't really bother me...

In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

Did I EVER say that I don't want "some of your endurance back"? EVER? No, I said you shouldn't get ALL of it back. EDIT: Hell - I even looked at some of the "compromise" proposals and thought they might make some sense. My objection has always been that sleeping for 8 hours takes you back to...

In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

See above. It's not "axe blow after axe blow biting deep into their body." And neither is it, "The orc rolls a hit. You narrowly avoid having your head chopped off." It's "The orc rolls a hit. His axe slams into your chest. Your armor softens the blow, but it's going to leave a bruise." Why do...

In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

So, what you're saying, is that those of us who have a "hit" and "damage" follow the actual dictionary definitions of the real words are playing D&D wrong? Because that's complete and utter BS. You're falling into a fallacy here. The answer to "no wounds" is not "all wounds." It's "mitigated...

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

Well, there you're reading something that I didn't indicate. For times when there isn't a ticking clock, of course I handwave away days (or even weeks or months or years, as the case may be).

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

Learn something new every day. That's never how I read that. I read that as gross income in the town for all people, not how many of each item could be there. I guess I've been playing it wrong since 3.5 was introduced. True, but that's because Lesser Vigor is a broken spell, and from a...

    [Eberron] Timeline Advancement?

That's actually why I chose Aundair when I first introduced my old gaming group to Eberron. It allowed me to ease some of the more resistant players into the world of Eberron, since Aundair felt more Realms-y.

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

I would guess, based on this thread and many others like it, that many groups would skip over that. My group is not one of those. For one thing, when the crap hits the fan and the game begins to hit stride, time is frequently of the essence and things need to get done before catastrophic results...

How Much Houseruling Are You Willing To Do?

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I feel as well. If I outright ban things, it's usually from books I don't own or have reasonable access to, or sometimes because it doesn't fit the world as I see it (no warforged in FR, no kender in Eberron, etc).

In the heat of battle, is hit point loss a wound?

This. Absolutely the way I've always played it. I can stop over-thinking everything right up until a character takes a nap and wakes up completely healed. Yes. As I said above, this is exactly the way I've played for almost 30 years.

D&D is not a supers game.

That's exactly how I feel about hit points. Even to the point of using dictionaries to define "hit" and "damage."

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

So, pray tell, explain to me how I'm playing D&D wrong, or they are? There's nothing in any of the three core books that says all magic items are available in all places. In fact, until you get to a "small town" (population 901-2000), nothing smaller can have even one wand of CLW, and a small...

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

Sure, but there was never more than one wand of CLW or so, and the healing from characters burned into casting resources. As far as magic item availability rules, since most of the games I ran were outside of metropolitan areas, it didn't really matter if they could by a wand in (insert major...

    Bounded Accuracy L&L

That's an excellent point, and one I'd xp you for if it was turned on.

    Bounded Accuracy L&L

While I seriously doubt this will be the case, it is sort of my concern as well. I think, on the balance, I really like the idea of bounded accuracy. But the HP inflation can't be astronomical to make up for the flattened accuracy. I know there are people who love games like Final Fantasy, but...

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

Honestly, if that's the baseline, I'm glad I don't play with the baseline folks. Also, as I've noted before, those at least require some investment, and this does not.

    [Eberron] Timeline Advancement?

Speaking just for me, I'd like to see more for some of the lesser explored areas, like the Lhazaar Principalities, Demon Wastes, Shadow Marches, and Droaam. Reading the novels which had some more of that was fairly key for running campaigns that weren't set in Sharn or Stormreach. Some of my...

    Les Miserables

Thanks. Didn't know that. Not an ABBA fan so I didn't bother watching that.
