    Class Balance - why?

I'm so late to this party, it pains me. I haven't had the chance to read every post, but I wanted to respond to this one. In theory, what you say is true. Oddly enough, it was this thought process that caused Ben Franklin to argue that we have AC voltage instead of DC coming out of our...

    Yedan's Troubleshooters (Eberron)

Whyre is quite tickled that the number of live bodies to shield him from enemy consternation is increasing. At this point he is wondering if he should get everyone a uniform or a T-shirt: "Whyre's Wall" kind of has a nice ring to it.

    Yedan's Troubleshooters (Eberron)

Another warm (I assume) body to protect the Ranger as he fires his bow safe from direct retribution? Sign him up!!! (Just form a shoulder to shoulder line here in front of the ranger, thanks).

    Level Drain

Do diseases work like poison? What about magical diseases, same as non-magical (assuming the issue has come up)?

    D&D New Version

I think the market is gamers, is it not? I see the problem is one of business strategy. Creating a product that by its very nature alienates previous customers seems to be a lose-lose strategy. Why not build on the existing product in a way that includes both new players and old? Funny you...

    Level Drain

I was thinking STR or DEX from something like a poison, though CON loss is more common with poisons.

Crafting a MWK Warhammer in one day

If you're talking about Genesis, reminds me a of huge debate I got unwillingly drawn into. Genesis doesn't technically give you the ability to create a plane with a different time flow.

    Level Drain

What about STR or DEX loss? So do CON buffs then temporarily increase one's blood supply?

    Yedan's Troubleshooters (Eberron)

Another disposable squishy to act as a barrier for the Ranger while uses his bow? Sign him up!!!

    Level Drain

Let me try and rephrase the question. Does your group's interpretation include thoughts or explorations regarding the nature of the draining abilities? In essence what does it really mean to drain a creature of abilities or levels...what is it that is really being taken from the person?

    Level Drain

So you're taking one mechanic and comparing it to another mechanic and then deciding based on the similarities of context that the first mechanic should influence how the second mechanic might work? Yes, I am familiar with that technique. :) While the rationale is novel, I can't say I would...

    Level Drain

Why would rule that the temp buffs were drained and not the underlying abilities? Is that a RAW requirement? Obviously it's beneficial for the player...

    Druid's Venom Immunity

The distinction occurs when you talk about things like Anti-Magic fields. So in this case it makes a big difference whether the effect is magical or not. I don't think the creation of the substance is material to the questions raised in this thread. I think the issue is the substance itself...

    Druid's Venom Immunity

This is what I call the troll tax. There's always a few people who patrol every thread and when people stop listening to them or they no longer want to talk about it, they think the thread should be stopped. It's so juvenile I find it amusing.

    Magic scope and scale

Rather than disallow the spell, why not assume the spell exists and have that change the way war is fought in this part of the world? That's much harder to do, but might make the game more interesting...or not. I knew Raze Town was symbolic, but given a spell called Time Stop, I figured there...

    Druid's Venom Immunity

This also occurred to me during this discussion, but since D&D doesn't use a lot of straight up medicines, I never broached the topic. I did use this line of reasoning when I pointed out that a "magical" poison and a "magical" potion would be essentially the same thing i.e. a liquid you...

    Magic scope and scale

Let me refer you to Greenfield's response: In all seriousness though, there is no right answer because there's no way to prove an answer is correct. The problem has no closure. So my response is focused on dealing with the plausibility/continuity issues of it existing in the first place...

    Magic scope and scale

<smile> There really should be an XP counter for snark. My first response was a replied to your original thread, the one where you had not mentioned the actual spell name or the book you got it from. You just said some WotC book which was not third party. So I looked for a "Slay Army"...
