Gamma World, past and Future (Hold the CCG)

I have run GW 1e for decades...with copious houserules. I love that game almost as much as D&D. I've played every edition of GW, but 1e does the job for me. BTW, if you like GW, please download Mutant Future. It's free and its awesome. A great "clone" of what made GW 1e so much fun...

Are you in the RPG closet?

I tell people that I play D&D...and then I tell them my name! :p For me, work is work, home is home, friends is friends, gaming is good. It's easier on my sanity. How "okay" it is to mention gaming at work is going to completely depend on your industry, your company culture and your status.

Essentials - Will you be getting it?

Gotta go with the spoon. I'm not a splatbook guy so I will probably just stick to my 4e books and my OD&D. I'm not a fan of .5 editions. However, I'd be happy to play an Essentials-Only 4e game. I will never play another 3.x so it's 4e or 0e for my D&D...and hopefully 5e too...

    Point buy and skill-based game

If you are the GM and are going to shoulder all the prep work and effort of being the GM, then the game has to be something that excites you most of all. 'Cuz its one thing to make one character to use every session versus the time the GM needs to invest in a point-buy game. GURPS and HERO...

Gamma World Box Set Sneak Peak on I09.com

I've read a few online blogs & articles and this is what I've gathered: 1) The new GW is going to be compatible with 4e. So you can use all your 4e stuff with your GW game and vice versa...supposedly. However, the GW heroes will deliver more damage and have less healing. 2) There will be...

    So I have this friend...

Do they have children? If yes, then they need counseling. If no, they need a quick divorce. Life's too short for this nonsense.

    Pulp Sword & Sorcery?

That's what I mean. If its a low magic world, then the divine magic and arcane magic would be quite weak by definition. If the magic is weak, what does that say about the Overgod? And if your setting is Fantasy Dune...that would be kewl. YouTube - Harkonnen Beans

    Pulp Sword & Sorcery?

Desert world Mind Magic Gods & Priests Hmm... S&S doesn't mean what it used to mean. It's just a fancy way to say "fantasy game" and "pulp" is confusing to anyone who isn't a geezer. Seriously, the pulp era was 80 years ago! If your setting is low magic, does that mean the gods are weak...

    Pirates: Ye Olde Core Rules!

"Avast there! Be ye seekin' adventure, matey? Well, there ain't no more glorious a trade than bein' a pirate! There ain't no laws what hold us. There ain't no men that break us. We be free, my friend. Free to live as kings, stuffin' our pockets fulla gold and killin' whoever gets in our way...

    Fantasia: Book of All Knowing

FANTASIA: the book of all knowing All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be the blade that...

    Experiences with Basic Fantasy RPG

Play with the three friends who will "do it for your sake" and then make sure you put extra effort into making the sessions extra awesome. BF is easy to houserule, so if there is something they absolutely loved about 3e, weave that into the BF game. Wow them with the fun and they'll be...

    Experiences with Basic Fantasy RPG

I play both 4e and retro D&D. They are both great fun and offer different play experiences for both the GM and players. The Nice Thing about Basic Fantasy, Labyrinth Lord, OSRIC, AD&D 1e, 2e, C&C and the great and mighty glory known as Swords & Wizardry is that they are all 90% compatible...

    Retro Clones

    1) OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry and Basic Fantasy are all free downloads so snag'em and read'em. Personally, my favorite is S&W because the game is boiled down to its raw elements and there is SO much freedom to houserule and develop my own "advanced" version of the game. I just...

D&D Convention in California for Memorial Day Weekend

Kubla is a great con. No question about that. It was my go-to event when I lived in NorCal. Between Kubla and Gamex, every Cali gamer should be tossing dice come Memorial Day Weekend.

4E, the Grind and Why I Play

I have seen many similiar comments from other 35+ year olds and I am not surprised. The neurological capacity for learning diminishes as people age. Not for everyone, but certainly for most. It's not that grognards are stupid, not at all, but certainly human biology is playing a huge...

Is 4e bringing new players to the game?

Here is what I know: 1) I left D&D during 3e because I hated to DM the game and I was bored when playing it. I love to play and DM 4e. I'm running 2 games every month at our D&D Meetup and I am having a blast. 2) Our D&D Meetup draws about 70 people per month. We have 10-12 tables in...
