Evil Genius Games Sues Netflix Over 'Rebel Moon' Roleplaying Game

I don't know just how "minor" the violation of the NDA was, or how irritated Netflix had to be (and why) to cancel the contract. It definitely sucks for the creatives involved. As for a chance to steal work cheaply... if Netflix / Snyder wanted a world bible they could have chucked 50k at a...

    RPG Evolution: When Gamers Retire

This is my last year. I'm pulling the plug. Retirement is just around the corner. Increasing game time is just around the corner. The only hitch is moving. My wife wants to move to the DC area (probably Northern Virginia) from central California to be closer to my daughter. Just need to find a...

Survey: RPG play up 37% since pandemic, interest in D&D up 85%

Unless they raised their prices the inflation rate isn't a big deal. They sold more books at the same price point they had before the pandemic. I know the 5E books didn't go up. I don't know about Magic prices though.

Survey: RPG play up 37% since pandemic, interest in D&D up 85%

Interesting bit about in-person importance. I'd guess the pandemic increased the value people place on in-person interaction.

RPG Crowdfunding News – World of Battlezoo, Trinity Continuum, Garbage & Glory, and more

I watched a review of it at Questing Beast and, yes, it looks amazing. It's a setting and rulebook combination. It's getting my money and I don't really go for setting related books (I have my own). The game system is pretty much OSE / B/X with new races, and monsters.

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Well, I have decided I have little interest in CR's games... but I am jealous of anyone who's going to be at Gencon! There is that :D

RPG Evolution: Every Threat, Everywhere, All At Once

That constant tension and fear is actually what made those games fun. When you survived and gained experience (and maybe levelled up) there was a real sense of accomplishment. Players always needed to be on their game and involved.

Take World War II To Your RPG Night With War Stories

I teach the U.S. end of it every year as part of the survey of U.S. History (History B-17B). I review the origins of the war as part of it. My fathers experience was what led me into history. And yes, Versailles wasn't enforced and Britain and France missed an opportunity to head the whole thing...

Take World War II To Your RPG Night With War Stories

Germany and Italy supported Nationalist / Fascist forces in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Italy was far more involved than Germany btw. Britain and France failed to support Czechoslovakia after the Munich Agreement was violated and Germany occupied the rest of that country. The Czechs had...

    Dragon Reflections #68

Thanks as always. I mainly remember this one for the cover :) My brother used the weather chart for his campaign (and still does). I had my own, simpler system already. As I flip back through it, it's a solid issue, but not, to me, that memorable. And yeah, I'd pay $10 for a monthly magaize like...

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

Name an RPG that doesn't have resource limitations / attrition / recharging? Just curious as to what you mean by that.

    D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Document: 77 Pages, 7 Classes, & More!

At what point in a typical dungeon, moving or not, are you not in danger of being eaten by a giant monster? That's kind of part of the definition of adventuring :D Seriously though, an hour short rest a couple times a day makes perfect sense. After a battle (or just a long tense time moving...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Tales of the Valiant, Girl by Moonlight, and more

Sounds like somebody needs to compare / contrast the various flavors of 5E. WotC, A5E, Tales of the Valiant, etc. Might be nice to know what each offers and how compatible they are. Without buying all of them :D

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #67

Not just that (although that is a factor). The large amounts of criticism didn't help. Many critics saw other games as superior to D&D / AD&D. I would say they were different myself. EGG thought they were all building off his / TSRs success and believed he deserved more credit (skipping the...

    Dragon Reflections #66

This is one of only 2 Dragon Magazines print editions I don't own a physical copy of. I was "off subscription" at the time and had just moved away for graduate school (yes I'm that old). By the time I located a hobby shop it was sold out. I read a friend's later and I picked up the Dragon CD-Rom...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Printers Can't Handle WotC's One D&D Print Runs!

Agreed. I think the whole point of staggering the release dates is to have enough supply to meet (projected) demand. Releasing everything at once with insufficient supply would be a problem. The other option would be to print over time, warehouse them, and release later, but that has it's own...

    RPG Evolution: Lessons in F.E.A.R.

Loved this game. The expansions and later sequels were not as good. Best AI I ever played against. Those clone / troops were pretty canny. A part of the atmosphere in FEAR is you are isolated with limited communications with anyone. Harder to do with a game centered on a party / group. Alien /...

Worlds of Design: Too Much Dice?

Yes, I know (on both counts). I have CT, MT, TNE, T4, T20, and both versions of T-5, the original and the slip case versions. On the whole I prefer the relative simplicity of the original Traveller paired with the task system to give an easy to apply, consistent, method of skill resolution.

Worlds of Design: Too Much Dice?

When we first got Traveller in '77 the first thing I did was raid the family boardgames for dice. Yahtzee with its multiple sets of D6 was great for that :D
