    Player vs. Player

In our very early gaming my first character died while the party was paralyzed with fear over what to do (I had significant time invested in this character). Those paralyzed included some alleged LG fearless types who were not living up to their reputation/alignment. So the next character I...

    Horses

funny story hijack Ok, so my wife and I are in Switzerland. We go off the beaten path in Montreaux and find this cool restaurant. As we are going over the specials we discover they are serving horse steaks. My wife, an animal lover but no vegetarian, is trying to decide to be adventurous...

Empathic Link - additional info beyond PHB?

... and that is how I try and adjuciate players actions. I was just wondering if there was more some where, or where you could stretch those limits. (as players are always trying to do) :) You make an interesting point, most players forget that their familiar feels their emotions back...

Please Help Paladin and Paladinwife...Award winners listed!

good luck sent mine. Sucks when bad stuff happens to good folk. Hopefully all will work itself out soon. I will never forget the stress of being out of work for an extended time, don't forget to breathe. Perhaps the economy is really turning and opportunities will present themselves.

Empathic Link - additional info beyond PHB?

Hi all, is there some good information that expounds a little more on Empathic Link (Su) for familiars beyond what is in the PHB/SRD? What I am really interested in is additional info on what is communicated via general emotional content. Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link...

[DM needs help] How the party figures out what spell is in a wand? (and other items)

I agree with your position. The rigid extension of the above statement would also prevent procuring the services of a wizard to cast identify for you or from even using the instructions included in the wand case. How does it play out in your game? Do you play it out or just give it to them...

[DM needs help] How the party figures out what spell is in a wand? (and other items)

Ya, I know. I just like the twisted aspect of the other way. Going down the spell list mechanically just doesn't have the right flavor. Although fits in with the methodical wizard types. :D Sounds like the right answer.

[DM needs help] How the party figures out what spell is in a wand? (and other items)

ok - so I know this. and I also know that I don't want to take up all our gaming time having characters flap their arms etc trying to figure out magic items. but some how going from a stick that glows magical evocation to instantly casting fireballs does not seem to have the right flavor...

    Scepters versus rods.......

Fast food and soda machines in school. And do not discount all those growth hormones in the milk. Next thing you know those so called 'wands' will be bulging out all over and wearing brassieres. It has to stop somewhere and it might as well be here and now I say.

What did you do during TSR's dark days of '97

'blink' There was something between AD&D and 3rd edition? 'blink' This may sound a bit familiar. Basic D&D for a short while, AD&D for a very long while becoming house ruled up the wazoo over time. Perfectly happy to continue on indefinitely. 2e held no power over us. It was alien and...

    Common 3.25 Rules

So I have agonized over this too... and I have not completely decided what will work best IMC. Other options I considered were: - break it into different spells so the 2nd level spell does +2 enhancement and higher level spells have greater enhancement - make the duration 10min/level and make...

How much do you prepare for a homebrew?

Just teasing. I also clicked a good amount. Perhaps we are in denial. :D "What did you do tonight since you have been home from work?" "Oh, picked up around the house, fed the kids, did a little excercise, checked e-mail and the boards, worked out an encounter in my head and sent an...

How much do you prepare for a homebrew?

SM is Kriskrafts laughing at you or me (more likely both)? I seem to recall her married to a DM who hands out jpegs of all the treasure items along with the carefully annotated maps with keys and lists of NPCs. did you click over-prepare in the survey?

How much do you prepare for a homebrew?

You see doc, it all start so innocently. Alternate DM when the whole group couldn't make it. Just a little island off the coast of the main DMs homebrew. Just a few maps and towns, not too big. Ah, well we need a cosmology, and of course a local currency, a little history, a few more...

    Character Death from DM perspective

I think it has been mostly said here, change the economics, make clerics who are able to bring them back scarce, create other challenges when they come back (scarring, ability loss, change of body perhaps, loss of some abilities until a quest of some sort?). IMC I have always made ressurrection...

just sitting there, reading the PHB

My wife 'tolerated' our gaming for several years before we were married and 15 years after we were married. Last night a couple of the male players in our game were complaining to my wife, the 5th level Paladin, that they wished thier wives would play. She waxed eloquently about why it is hard...

Just *how* big is that gold piece again?

As was already pointed out, most ancient coins were hand stamped and not very consitant in their flatness or roundness. I won't pretend to know accurate facts about the thinkness, but the ancient coins that I have seen at the British Museum and other museums in europe were pretty darn thin, and...
