Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

Our GURPS Dungeon Fantasy campaign was often playing two scenarios at once. The player of our wizard is quite often busy with other things on Wednesdays, so the rest of the party would play a different scenario on those occasions. The GM wasn't at all bothered about continuity details, and the...

Checking the Geology of a Map

Looks reasonable. Players do sometimes care about this: I once pointed out to a DM that the lack of a river just there didn't make any sense unless someone had moved it underground or similar, and a whole new plot line appeared.

July, 1940. We are engaged in transporting the Duke & Duchess of Windsor from Lisbon to the Bahamas, where the Duke is to serve as governor. Because our aircraft, the Short S.30 Empire-class flying boat Cathay lacks the range for a direct Atlantic crossing, we have to go the long way around...

Any ideas what to run for the ides of March

Set up something that looks like a plot against a ruler by one of his friends? For a twist, it's actually a bluff, to see if anyone is disloyal enough to join in the plot. For a double twist, there's a real plot that's trying to exploit the bluff to get someone else blamed for a murder.

Describe your last RPG session in more than 5 words.

As we ascend the Orinoco River looking for El Dorado, things are gradually getting weirder. We had zombies in a graveyard ages ago, but man-sized spiders are definitely another step away from mundane reality. We were attacked by three while we were moving along the river bank, and had to stop to...

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

I suspect they believe it's so cool, combining the TTRPG with a video game, that everyone will crowd aboard. Groupthink can lead a company to very strange places. I haven't the slightest intention of using any form of D&D for the next campaign I run. I don't know what I will use, and I don't...

GMs: How Much Do You Curate Your Adventures To Your Specific PCs, Mechanically Speaking

These days, I don't run third-party adventures. When creating scenarios for the campaigns I'm running, I don't design them to the details of the PC's capabilities, because that makes the game feel unreal to me. I try to make sure the general level of challenge is within the characters'...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

To return to the original topic, I ate in an Neapolitan restaurant on Saturday that prides itself on authenticity. They will provide a pineapple pizza, but it's £500 (about US$600) as opposed to about £15 for other pizzas.

When Combat Isn't Always *About* Combat

We were having a fight in a badly constructed set of tunnels when they started to collapse. Suddenly we had to get the BBEG to chase us away from where he was blocking an exit. If we could do that, our advance scout could escape the collapse. If we didn't, the scout would be trapped and likely...

    Should Wizardry Require Player Intelligence?

That's why players of characters who tend to get solo scenes, such as stealthy infiltrators, really need to work at sharing the tension around. Stream-of-consciousness commentary works fairly well.
