KoTS - Kobold Slinger Drops [Possible Spoiler]

Yeah, it's funny the way games and gambling use some of the same tricks to keep players hooked. There's a reason why MMOs are considered addictive, and it isn't because they're funner than talking with actual people.

    The big deal about grapple

You're just immobilized, which allows you to teleport or be pushed/pulled/slid by enemy powers. There's a 'Restrained' condition that gives enemies Combat Advantage, carries Immobilized's effects, disallows forced movement and gives the victim a -2 penalty on attacks, but if there's a way to...

KotS A TPK turned Capture (Advice, Spoilers)

I'm not entirely sure that that isn't the point. PCs can win, but they need excellent tactics backed by excellent rolls. Far more likely, they should be forced to retreat, using the waterfall as cover before scattering into the forest. If my group hasn't absolutely decimated the first wave...

Something "Shifty" Going On (Spoiler Warning!!!)

I had planned to run Dragonshields as shifting at the end of the action, but this has thrown some doubt on that... but the ruling clarified in the e-mail is, frankly, stupid, so I'd prefer to compromise and say the Dragonshield can shift at the end of the player's turn to prevent flanking. Still...

    The big deal about grapple

It's Str vs. Fort to grab, and yes, it causes the Immobilize status. In a grab, the attacker can do another Str vs. Fort to move the victim, although how far this move can be isn't specified in KotS. And yes, it's Athletics vs. Fort or Acrobatics vs. Ref to escape. Anyway, I'm not entirely...

    KotS: Too Easy?(Spoilers)

Ah, okay. Must've missed that one, as I only kept seeing it pop up in KotS under every specific pit trap or other danger. Funny that they left it off the most dangerous of all 'traps' in the adventure, but if it was in the rules and I skimmed over it, no worries.

    Kobold Wyrmpriest in KotS?

It's +6 in KotS. There's no type on page 29 at least.

    KotS: Too Easy?(Spoilers)

Don't see anything about a save in the adventure. It just says that anything entering those squares dies.

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

But you don't get a 1/2 level bonus at level 1, so that would have made the pre-gen's damage boost a +0. It has to be Cha.

    Dying to Know

I've seen it said that rolling a 20 on a regular saving throw clears ALL status effects on the character, not just the one being rolled for. I think I've seen either the stabilize or healing surge rule for a 20 when dying as well, but can't remember which or where.

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Then again, that is just one shop out of an entire town and valley they're claiming to have info on. And we've known about PC-class Templates for NPCs for a long time. I seriously doubt this guy was built using PC creation rules, he's just using the Rogue Template.

A few comments from a playtester

Late, but I just want to say one thing. Richard Rahl, from the Sword of Truth series.

    Rolling for Initiative

I group creatures as I see fit, but in a standard sized encounter, I generally give everything its own initiative. And my time saving technique is to roll initiative for all planned encounters in advance. I just add the PC's rolls the the list and away we go.

    KotS: Too Easy?(Spoilers)

Not the adventure as a whole, of course, but the final confrontation at least. Anyone else notice that the Rogue can end it on his own with Positioning Strike? I just really liked the idea of that, and felt like pointing it out.

How will you read the core books day one?

I'll pour through the character options in the PHB, and then skim the MM. I'll then jump back into the PHB, reading through the rest of it, before focusing my attention on the DMG in its entirety.

    Dragonshield Tactics

I think most people have been ruling that move action + attack in the same standard action allow the PC to make the attack before the Dragonshield moves away. The Rogue's move 2 and attack at-will is another example of this.

    D&D 4E Halivar's 4E auto-calculating character sheet v.2.03 (OpenOffice, Excel & blank PDF)

Nice, Halivar, I'm glad to see this coming along. Hopefully it's about final now, but it's already looking to be a top notch tool. Thanks for making and uploading it for us! :D

Minions. The DM knows 'em. Do the players?

You're right, of course, Silver Agent. I just don't think I should help them realize this. Let them figure out on their own which enemies seem weaker than the others. Using separate minis or descriptions to give them advance knowledge is what I want to avoid.

Minions. The DM knows 'em. Do the players?

I remember seeing in a recent KotS playtest posted here where the player had discovered which minis were minions and modeled his tactics around it. He got horribly beaten because of it by ignoring them and letting the Dragonshields keep their +hojillion to hit, while taking lots of minion damage...

Indiana Jones 4 and KotS similarities? *Spoilers*

The messed up Army Ant nests. Their nests are made out of groups of the ants banded together, much in the same way they banded together to climb over themselves to get to the villainess. Sorry, just some random stuff I picked up from the history channel. Yes, I realize it has no effect on the...
