Pages From The Upcoming Nautical D&D Book!

Does opening up Greyhawk, Planescape, Birthright, Dragonlance, Dark Sun, or any of the other myriad other settings for the DMsguild really hurt WotC's sales? Practically everything on that site is 3rd party. 3rd party products still have the stigma lingering from 3rd edition, nearly 20 years...

Pages From The Upcoming Nautical D&D Book!

Unless they do. So far, WotC has been good about including "In Other Worlds" in their adventures, for the very real possibility someone isn't running FR but wants to run the adventure. PotA's other worlds describes placing the adventure in and around Hommlet, the site of the previous 2...

My return to TTRPG w/ 5e, reflections after 5 years

I agree with you on the goblins in PF. I absolutely hate the way they look. As for 5e: The artist(s) is skilled (I think the vast majority of the art in the core 3 is from Conceptopolis) without a doubt, but their style is absolute garbage to my eyes. There are some monsters I really like the...

Pages From The Upcoming Nautical D&D Book!

I like sahuagin. Even have an entire undersea sahuagin empire in my homebrew setting. I just hope the ones in this book don't look as stupid and fugly as those in the Monster Manual. While I am not a fan of premade adventures, I am intrigued by this nautical one. There aren't many that are made.

My return to TTRPG w/ 5e, reflections after 5 years

I started at the tail end of 2nd edition, though my first game ever was a session of 1st edition. I played/ran a few sessions of 2e for the 2 years before 3rd came out, then switched over to 3rd. Played that off and on throughout its lifespan, until about 2007, when I basically had to stop. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Non evil gnoll tribes?

You know, that's almost the full backstory of my gnoll PC I am playing. Except the paladin in the party was the only one against infanticide and fought her party members (and won, though knocked them out), and lost her paladin powers (because, you know, the whole baby orc scenario that was so...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I never understood this. Something is seriously wrong with the fighter if the wizard is doing the same damage and hitting just as well with a sword as the fighter. Do they both have 10 Strength? Do they both have 20 Str? Just because they both have the same "attack bonus" of +2 at level 1...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

Practically every ability has limited uses, with the exceptions of swinging a sword and cantrips. So I assume you mean unlimited cantrips, instead of the nonexistent cantrips of AD&D and the limited cantrips of 3rd and Pathfinder. I personally like it. Makes magic users be magic users, instead...

Why 5E may be the last edition of D&D

Have you seen the the rage about the whitewashing accusations from the Ghost in the Shell movies? The vitriol spewed at people who hated on Ghostbusters? Any comedian who made a racially "insentive" joke (but didn't say the n-word) or a mildly sexist joke? The incident that got the Roseanne...

Why 5E may be the last edition of D&D

You aren't taking into account everyone who knows nothing about D&D, FR, or Drow, and will see a dark colored race (doesn't matter if they are human or elven or something else) being evil bastards as something extremely racist. Yes, not all drow are evil and not all surface elves are good and...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I haven't read all 180+ replies, so I apologize if you are actually speaking of previous editions. The 5e druid has no actual restrictions to wearing metal armor. It says they will not, not they can not. It's a narrative "restriction", and unlike in some previous editions (such as 3rd), they...

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

So from what I gather from many replies in here, you wouldn't be happy with a "sidekick" unless it only "leveled" 3 times (tier 1-2, 2-3, 3-4), only got to swing a sword or cast a cantrip, had no other abilities other than swing sword or cast cantrip, and got about 4 hp per tier. If that's all...

Why 5E may be the last edition of D&D

Wizards and Hasbro won't dare leave the Sword Coast region of Faerun, more than likely. To me, the War of the Lance story would be one of the best to turn into films. Unfortunately, they tried that with the horrific animated movie ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0825245/ ) 10 years ago. So I...

D&D Beyond teams up with Wikia (Fandom)

Saw a thing about this over on a D&D reddit last night before bed. According to the guy that runs D&D Beyond, he says that this will allow them to speed up their development and nothing bad will happen. I honestly don't know how much of what he says can be believed and isn't just PR speak so he...

Why 5E may be the last edition of D&D

I wouldn't hold my breath when it comes to the idea of WotC doing a new edition the way Savage Worlds does it. WotC has a tendency to drastically change things. 2nd -> 3rd was a huge change. 3rd -> 4th was a huge change (and one many thought wasn't needed, though I am sure if the internet was as...

D&D Beyond teams up with Wikia (Fandom)

I saw something similar to this over on an mmorpg forum that is owned by Curse. So, did Fandom purchase Curse from Twitch, purchase Twitch, or were purchased by Twitch? I know Wikia was into aggressive ad placement on all their websites, so this is probably a bad thing.

Campaign Settings and DM Strictures, the POLL

The Pathfinder take on gnomes is different, but I prefer my take on them more. Of course, I may or may not be biased :p As for that image in the link: I like it for a gnome druid. She looks like a druid. Kinda reminds me of Vidania the 3rd edition iconic druid (though I prefer Vidania over the...

Do We Really Need Half-Elves and Half-Orcs?

lol very true, though they are all commitments.

Do We Really Need Half-Elves and Half-Orcs?

I didn't mean it in an overall negative term when I said ridiculous. I was talking more general, in that a DM who does it online can advertise a very restricted game and still get loads of people who want to play. By that I mean something like "Playing in such setting (could be homebrew or...

Do We Really Need Half-Elves and Half-Orcs?

True. A DM who runs Adventure League or Pathfinder Society or whatever other organized play really has no say in what the players can or can't bring to the table. DMs who run online can make some rather ridiculous "rules" (a better word escapes me at the moment) in what the players can make and...
