TSR Rob Kuntz Recounts The Origins Of D&D

Honestly, the article is interesting but does not change my opinion of gygax. Had it not been for his drive, organization, merging of genres, historical readings and codification of rules, the game would have been a weird thing some guys did in a basement in the Midwest that no one ever heard...

TSR Rob Kuntz Recounts The Origins Of D&D

I did not know the man but taking in Kuntz and treating a lost kid like family sounds pretty nice to me. We're all complex and imperfect. I am sure he was a mixed bag. Like the rest of us.

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant Tieflings

Hello gang! I have not posted in a good while. I have been busy curating a miniature collection and finishing a 4'x6' dungeon and '4'x6' forest for an upcoming "convention." At any rate I started looking at all of the info about tieflings and believe I might, for the first time, want to...

    AD&D 1E Dragon Reflections #23

Super fun read. I was a kid when I started playing and only got cast off dragons from older kids who were done with them. I spent hours perusing them so it's fun to get a window into other issues!

OSR OSR ... Feel the Love! Why People Like The Old School

There's more mystery in an imperfect system like 1e. There is more variability in power. Rolling hit points and abilities was exciting! I had a barbarian with 6 12s for hit point rolls...lottery odds! And it became part of his character... i think as as an adult (not a kid) the danger of...

Acquisitions Inc Book Art From Aviv Or

The art is distracting and silly. Not a fan at all. It is just taste of course. It's not the vibe of any D&D I have ever played. However I am sure there are some groups that like a little more sunshine and smiles. Maybe they enjoy it?

    Multi-class options

After reading this I looked for some of my ancient sheets! I actually also had a gray elf druid/magic-user as well. 'Gristos Achilleous' We went crazy for a while in the 90s with multiclassing combos for 1st ed AD&D! That article in dragon opened up crazy vistas. We never converted to 2nd...

    Multi-class options

Actually there was some other options for 1e in dragon! We printed it and put it in our UA books. There were crazy allowable combos like cleric magic user thieves! I had an evil one--worshipped Loki. An evil gray elf named Glavis! Some 30 years ago...

The New Dungeons & Dragons Storyline for 2019 Leaked Ahead of Live Stream

Call me old fashioned and out of date or a fanboy or whatever...devils are interesting, fallen angels moreso and the opportunity to be in that alien territory is fantastic. the roleplay and survival challenges could be incredible. So. Cool. i love the idea of being horribly outgunned and yet...

    Zombies Grappling/Shoving

You could have them grapple and do damage either way by raw. For extra creep factor have some damage be piercing or slashing via bite. It changes nothing about the challenge rating imho. Got for it.

    Source for prebuilt encounters

This is going to be a very helpful tool for me! Thanks

    Source for prebuilt encounters

Very cool---looks to be very helpful. I was not aware of these! Much appreciation

    Source for prebuilt encounters

Is anyone aware of a source for prebuilt encounters by challenge rating? I would like a jump start on my upcoming dungeon crawl planning

A different opinion about feats--rethinking "situational"

I really find GWM sort of freeing in that when I DM, I worry less about overdoing a challenge

A different opinion about feats--rethinking "situational"

Ok. Fair enough. Now look around at how others use the term. It's applied to darn near anything but observant and great weapon master! I don't disagree with your point. I disagree with how it is applied to useful feats and abilities.

A different opinion about feats--rethinking "situational"

A recent discussion about weapon master here on EnWorld got me thinking. I was one of the few people that thought the feat was fine since it helps to make a "character." I realize why I am often on the other side of popular opinion. I do not think "situational" is a bad thing. In fact, I...

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the terrible Weapon Master feat

Very good point on proficiency. However, I don't think +2 on four favored weapons is worse than +1 to one ability score from a mechanical standpoint either. But no big issue. I would take the feat in some situations and you might not. It's AOK! I think the half feats are a good value for...

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the terrible Weapon Master feat

I think the point is that for half an ASI a warlock (nonblade) or someone else can now swing a sword. They might like the imagery, a higher damage die(dice) or the ability to claim more magic weapons that get found. Some don't like to "dip" for many reasons including roleplay ones or even as...

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the terrible Weapon Master feat

How underpowered would upgraded armor and four weapon proficiencies be? I would say that is a lot of mechanical advantage for a feat and where it applies, good flavor. Well this already exisits. As a variant human take an armor feat if needed at first and wepaon master at 4th. You give up a...
