    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

It's also worth noting that in 1e, the only 'common' creatures were humans and orcs. So arguably, Oerth is also orc-centric.

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

I thought that after 4e made gnomes officially fey, I got them for the first time (even if I disapproved of their new beardless appearance). I was disappointed when they rolled that back. They have always been a lower tier PC race, usually just to play an illusionist-thief or fighter-illusionist.

Also, finally the scimitar of speed isn't so lame.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

A sling is so small, and light, I don't think I would enforce the requirement that an empty sling required a second free hand but you make a very valid point RAW! Yeah the issue with Eldritch Blast was more of a general one. It does look like True Strike should stack but the 'problem'...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Ah yeah that's a relief for my rogue/shadow sorcerer/warlock. She was using rapier and greenflame blade with sneak attack. She's only a L3 rogue so her combined damage was still a bit bleh. The issue comes when a single-classed rogue takes magic adept but I guess it's not enough of an issue...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yeah in 1e it would normally have been a longsword and shortbow as the highest damage dealing weapons, so it's interesting to see that there are now tangible benefits if you take various different weapons under this system. I suppose, with aiming and nick, thrown daggers also have a bit of a...

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

I think the 3e LG gazetteer spread the races and classes a lot more evenly than I liked out of necessity because they wanted every (real world) LG nation to function independently on a level playing field. That stripped out flavour for me and led to the introduction of cheesier Harry Potter...

    D&D 5E (2024) A take on dual wielding

Yes. Albeit only as a high level fighter. My point was, it's not so easy to perform the same combination every round. As a side note, I won't be adopting the 2024 drawing, stowing, and dropping rules. I think dropping should be free otherwise nobody will ever do it. I think my compromise...

Seaton is the more important port but even that is small fry compared to Gradsul. Saltmarsh is important only to criminals, naturalists, and lizard lovers.

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

Not if you zoom out. The non-human groups are small and isolationist or in downright opposition. The classic D&D group only kicks in at Rivendell and doesn't really last long but it's clearly an exception to see elves, dwarves, and men travelling together. It does highlight the storytelling...

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

Hmm. Lizardfolk bureaucrats though? An 'embassy' in terms of a neutral meeting place near the swamp, perhaps, but not a building in the town centre. It just smacked too much of amanthropophormisation. Why can't lizardfolk remain lizardfolky?

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

I disliked the 3e version of Saltmarsh in DMG2. It felt like a tickbox exercise in how to convert a town to a different campaign world. I mean, a Lizardfolk embassy as opposed to a gang of armed lizardfolk turning up at the edge of town, making your guards nervous and demanding to see someone...

    D&D 5E (2024) A take on dual wielding

Thrown weapons tend to be small and lower damage but the rules as they are will apply equally to larger improvised weapons without the thrown property. I would have preferred the draw throw draw throw ability to be linked to the thrown property itself. I'm not a fan of drawing as part of the...

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

Greyhawk certainly took a lot of inspiration from Tolkien and I am fine with that. It does make it hard to justify some PC choices. The average village is fearful and xenophobic. Halflings, elves, and dwarves may be welcome or tolerated but a gigantic goliath or a woman with demon blood? I...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yeah, if their intention is to make fighting with light weapons a viable option for Fighters and Barbarians, whether by wielding two weapons at once or not, then maybe that is the intent, but I doubt it. I really like that nick plugs a TWF gap but can anyone tell me what reason a rogue would...

    D&D 5E (2024) A take on dual wielding

Yeah I meant more that it's harder to maintain the weapon juggling every round. If you throw a weapon, it's not available to throw again the next round. In melee, you are starting the round with a different weapon, so your mastery combo is reversed. Even if you can use your object interaction...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

I'm more half and half. Barbarians and Paladins never really needed to be more powerful IMO so I doubt that removing masteries would make them feel under-powered. Rogues were a really fun, popular class which still gets cunning strike on top of the 2014 version so a slight dip in power but...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

It doesn't work on a hard binary basis, since many magical effects have some physical consequences, as does poison, but I am broadly in agreement. I would say the half hit points/bloodied milestone is also meat damage.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

That's true. Although, admittedly some people do seem to hate the concept of inspirational healing with more passion thank some Tolkien fans hate Rings of Power. I suppose not everyone agrees on every concept either. Inspirational healing has real world scientific parallels such as adrenalin...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

It's a mistake to try and put hp or temp hp into neat boxes since they cover multiple concepts that are not mutually exclusive, even for the same damage roll. It's something that applies to many mechanics in D&D. If it makes a difference to the story, you just pick the one that makes the most...
