Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Is Already Getting Errata

I tend to ask players to specify what they are doing and how they are doing it. If I feel they are pushing all the right buttons to succeed I would still ask them to roll to determine a standard success or an uber success of some kind. Simply rolling is likely to miss out on a lot of nuance...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yes I agree, the intent is to make fighting with lower damage light weapons competitive for someone who isn't a rogue. I'm happy with the two weapon fighting rules. The only thing I think they could do otherwise to rebalnce it at higher levels is to allow a fighter with 3+ attacks to attack...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

I think my issue is that when I play, I think cinematically, so anything that would look really dumb on screen is unappealing to me. Using different masteries on the same weapon is cool, retrieving fallen weapons is cool, drawing a smaller weapon when being grappled is cool. The level of...

D&D General My party wants to defuse a war by arranging a marriage. Where's the gameplay?

Assassins hired to disrupt the wedding either for political purposes or maybe even just for jealousy could give rise to a whodunit type story. Family members could be kidnapped, or a magical or symbolic wedding present from an important faction might be stolen. An imposter might be performing...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of this level of juggling but I'm struggling to find a compromise. Allowing one free draw at the start of your turn would still be better than 2014 but then you still need to specify the ability to draw for every attack with the thrown property. If you then allow...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing Savage Attacker and Great Weapon Fighting.

Ah yes, of course, drawing two weapons instead if one makes things a lot spicier. Was the ruling about having a weapon in both hands at the start of the round ever official errata, or it was just a clarification of intention? I think people pinning their hopes on a ruling that you don't need...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing Savage Attacker and Great Weapon Fighting.

I don't think this particular combination will work quite the way you hope. Most likely, the official interpretation from 2014 will stand, that you have to be wielding weapons in both hands when you make your FIRST attack in order to qualify for the bonus action/nick attack. Since you have to...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

Yeah, this remains very sensible. Apparently, the intention is for the feat to grant a third attack with light weapons. I'm not sure it was necessary to ban any two one handed weapons. We will still allow our fighter to use his two longswords. They were never rules legal even in 1e. It's...

I believe that if you speak about the stealth rules louder than a whisper, you no longer have the invisible condition.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

I mean, technically, everything that happens in the same 6 seconds, not quite but nigh on simultaneously, so only taking damage once per round makes perfect sense. I suppose you can take double damage on a crit so maybe a compromise is to say that damage can be taken no more than twice in the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

Tbh, the draw and stow two weapons in dual wield seems a bit redundant now too. It should probably be draw a weapon as part of your attack action. Then on thrown weapons confirm that you can draw a thrown weapon as part of the attack.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

I think it's valid to ask why they removed the line. Two weapon fighting is clearly meant and always has been fighting with two weapons at the same time so that's the default. They may have wanted to leave open a scenario where you might want to swap hands during combat (but this is...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

Dropping a weapon was free in 2014. It isn't now so that only works if the free object interaction can be used to draw or drop a weapon or swap hands. I think the two weapon fighting rules require you to have a second light weapon in your other hand and the nick property tags on from that. So...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

Is the weapon juggling genuinely much of an issue if you can only draw OR drop/stow one weapon per attack and shield equipping still takes an action? If you are holding a weapon when you attack, you can stow it at the end of that attack and draw a different weapon for your second attack. You...

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Is Already Getting Errata

This is the problem. The invisibility condition defines that you can't be seen. All they needed was some description in the spell.

D&D General Illusionists better in 2024

It used to have cool scaling effects. Sure, it's a free mount but if it drops in battle it's a pain to get it back. I would say make it scale like Hunter's Mark for 8 hour duration. Or bring back the upscaling when cast as a spell: 4th Ignore difficult terrain 5th Water Walk 6th Cross...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 House Rules / Fixes

If you are going to throw away every legacy class distinction, why even bother playing Dungeons and Dragons? Fighters can read, let them read spell scrolls. ;-p

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 House Rules / Fixes

You can only draw, stow, or drop one weapon per attack so it stands to reason that dropping your shield would count as an object interaction as well. One other option is when you equip a shield as your object interaction, the AC bonus takes effect from the start of your next turn so everyone...

D&D 5E (2024) Rogue Weapon mastery and Pact weapons

Thinking about it, presumably you won't be able to attack from hidden with advantage because casting the spell breaks the invisible condition and the attack is not part of the spell. Maybe that is the balancing factor?
