    I concur.

Not quite 'entirely DM dependent' because it still constrained by logical assumptions. Or to put it another way, the legal rules of contractual interpretation are that words should be given the ordinary meaning that would be conveyed to an objective bystander with knowledge of the relevant...

D&D 5E (2024) Current Stealth Rule Actually Works As Is. If Moving Out of Cover After Hiding Makes Enemies Immediately "Finds You", Hide Would Be Totally UNUSABLE.

The DM is already deciding when you make the stealth roll. Why is it so wrong for the DM to then decide 'if they can somehow see you'? 2014 said that they could automatically see you. 2024 says DM Decides if they can see you. A DM may decide that an alert guard staring down that corridor...

Nick only applies to d6 or d4 weapons though? So this is just a way to even up damage dealt if people want to use iconic smaller weapons?

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

I'm frustrated that they ruined Phantom Steed because it now lacks scaling and lasts only for an hour. Would it kill them to have Lv4 slot - ignore difficult terrain, lvl5 walk on water, lasts 8 hours, lvl6 walk on air to cross chasms (there are easier ways to fly but it's just kind of cool)...

Yes but whenever you roll that check, the DM decides when it becomes relevant. It seems to me to that the term 'unless the enemy can somehow see you' is sufficiently broad and should apply where you are standing in plain sight in bright light in front of a target at the start of their turn...

I think moving at half speed should not require a second check.

Can a rogue stealth as a bonus action, move and then hold their action to react to whatever the guard does to stay out of sight?

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

No I don't think it does because if all you are doing is moving silently, the likelihood is that you have cover or concealment from those listening. Those asleep have their eyes closed, those inside the room have limited views through the door etc. But I agree, it should not be an absolute...

D&D 5E (2024) Current Stealth Rule Actually Works As Is. If Moving Out of Cover After Hiding Makes Enemies Immediately "Finds You", Hide Would Be Totally UNUSABLE.

I think in most cases, it should work. If a guard is on high alert staring down a corridor they might effectively be holding their action to react as soon as they see someone. A guard who is not as alert might be caught "off guard" - the clue is in the name. Maybe dozing, peeing, or just...

This is very sensible but I think they are trying to give a 'free' round of stealth by rolling against a static DC. What you do in that round determines whether you are still stealthed next round but the surprise factor means you have it until you don't. So you don't lose it as soon as you...

OK so I think I get most of it. The issues they seem to be trying to fix are: people having line of sight automatically breaking stealth/invisible/hidden condition making noise while cloaked by invisibility spell does not mean enemies know which square you are in. I'm fine using Common...

No consequences for heavy obscurement? So... a darkness spell does nothing? Or does the description of the darkness spell grant the invisible condition if it blocks line of sight?

Not quite the same condition. An evil enemy can still target the 'innocent ' couple in frustration because they can still be seen.

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

Right, so to summarise, the main practical difference here is that a person under the effect of an invisibility spell can talk and an enemy will still need to make a perception check to work out which square they are in? If fighting someone with improved invisibility in melee, could someone...

Yes. A guard, by default, is using their action to search, so darting from tree to tree might not work. A child playing with a doll is not using its action to search, so only requiring one DC15 roll at the start works fine.

I'm not packing my chewing gum with socks. Seriously, I have expertise in stealth as it is. I scare everyone but just popping up when they don't hear me coming. Luckily for them my attack rolls are terrible.

Heh, it's only a rules violation if a player does it. I only intend to house-rule them (which is still rules lawful when a DM does it) if I don't understand what it is the changes were intended to improve. I understood the distinction between being hidden and unseen vs being invisible in 5e...

The rules are that the DM decides how to apply the rules, but you knew that already ;);)
