D&D 5E (2014) What do you think should be done with alignment?

I quite like this alternate version: Good: Righteous Evil: Wicked Lawful: Legit Chaotic: Radical In this system, if someone is neutral in one aspect of their alignment, they are Totally Righteous / Wicked / Legit / Radical, whereas True Neutral becomes simply Chill.

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

If they're not competing, why does it matter what the rest of the party can do? Alternatively, it sounds they'd make pretty good advisors to and agents of the king.

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

And here's the thing, this is falling into the old forum trap where if you're not optimised for something you're incompetent at it. The difference between Charisma 10 and Charisma 14 is.....ten percent. Go with CHA 12, take Persuasion as one of your skills, and you're a good talker. Looking...

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

By now, I just tune out of a thread as soon as someone says "martial" in any context.

    D&D 5E (2014) Unfair Scrying

There are--Nondetection, and that other spell that makes an area scrying proof. I remember a game of Mage: The Ascension where the bad guy had time magic and so could perfectly predict all our plans because he was looking into the future. Perfectly rules-legal, negative fun.

D&D General How am I a D&D outlier? How are you one?

I don't do a popular thing, and that makes me cool.

    D&D 5E (2014) Orcs and Drow in YOUR game (poll */comments +)

I just don't use them. It's not like there aren't other brutish warlike humanoids, and divinely screwed-over evil counterpart races that don't attract anywhere near as much angst and e-rage.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e witches, your preferred implementation?

I'd say all of those are a perfect fit for one interpretation of the word or another, the problem is that it sees so many different uses in pop culture that there is no one definition. Hammer horror: A sinister spellcaster who makes a pact with evil beings and acts as their agent. Warlock...

D&D 5E (2014) Lightning Bolt should be better.

To make Lightning Bolt good, fix the damage on Fireball. No need to power-creep everything up to match the outlier, Lightning Bolt is still a cap-breaking damage spell. Just weaken the damage spell that does the same damage in a more convenient area.

    D&D 5E (2014) Gimme your best villain one-liner!

"I did it thirty-five minutes ago."

    D&D 5E (2014) Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Not to mention, a lot of the leaders of the towns are portrayed as good and moral people who probably wouldn't okay this unless they had proof it was the only way to survive. Also, none of the town descriptions take this into account--NPC's are generally friendly, eager to chat and worried about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Yes, that's my inclination too. Fight through the fort to reach the dragon, and then see it leaving. When I get there, I'll probably make it so that Auril's worshippers are influencing Xardarok--they pointed him towards the tainted chardalyn in the first place, like with the berserkers, and now...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

I'm doing much the same. There are some great set-pieces in the campaign, but they're not tied together very well, and it's entirely possible for the players to miss certain plot threads entirely and potentially end the driving force of the adventure two chapters early! There are some things...

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage, Criticals, and Fumbles

They both fared better than General Grievous. Poor sod made his character around "make loads of attacks" where each attack has a 5% chance of humiliating failure. And I prefer not to emulate slapstick comedies, with the greatest warrior in the world being 3x more likely to stab an ally or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Advantage, Criticals, and Fumbles

I really like the design of Halflings in 5e. They're a great way to protect yourself from DM's who haven't yet realised critical fumbles are bad ideas.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's official twitter feed is giving previews of art and contents from Monsters of the Multiverse

Another thing is that there's never been a definite "before and after" image that shows the difference between a shifter using shifting and one not. So for any given image of a shifter, you have to take a guess as to whether that's what they usually look like.

D&D 5E (2024) What do you want in the revised DMG?

I think the only thing I'd want is a revision to the adventuring day bit where it now gives multiple examples of adventuring days and makes it super ultra clear that there is no "right" way to do it. And if that doesn't drive a stake through the heart of the "6-8 encounters per day or you're...

    D&D 5E (2014) 2022 WoTC Books?

Writing about another culture is not automatically "appropriation" just because it's white people doing it. That's a dilution of the term that only makes it harder for actual appropriation to be taken seriously. Also, Japan is a rich First World country that regularly produces works such as...

D&D 5E (2014) Thread topic most likely to be first to reach 10+ pages of argument

Perhaps there should be a distinction between long threads which keep arguing about the original topic, and long threads that lurch off-topic until at page 80-ish people are arguing about what the definition of "is" is. And don't forget anything with "martials" in the title.
