What is your thoughts on multiclassing?

I don't play much 4e, but I'm somewhat wary of its multiclassing system based on experience I had playing Guild Wars (yes, the MMO), which uses a similar system. In GW, you have both a primary and a secondary profession. You can use powers from both professions, but you gain access to a...

Do you play more for the story or the combat?

For what it's worth, story-motivation is what keeps me playing pen and paper RPGs rather than MMOs. Every MMO that I've tried was a grind-fest with a little story tacked onto the end. Single player computer RPGs (on easy!) are much more satisfying for my inner story-monger. This also tends to...

Do you play more for the story or the combat?

I'm definitely more of a story person. I'm the kind of guy who plays video games on the easiest difficulty (or with cheats). I'm not interested in playing for a challenge, I play because I want to find out (or determine) what happens next.

    Forked Thread: The Great Wheel

I ran a successful PS campaign from first to about tenth level where none of the players had ever so much as looked at a PS book or the MotP. The trick is to give them only a very high-level view upfront, and fill in the details as necessary.

    Forked Thread: The Great Wheel

The 3e Manual of the Planes was the first D&D book I ever read, after the core books, and I was absolutely floored by how awesome and interesting the locations were. I really don't get the complaint that the Great Wheel didn't have interesting locations/adventure possibilities.

    Flavor in Rules Text

I mostly like fluff separate from rules text. However, I also like creatures having non-combat abilities, which might count as flavor mixed with rules.

    Weird political systems

I doubt Paul Verhoeven thinks much about it at all, considering he didn't read the book (where the idea is examined at length). The screenwriter probably just threw in the passing reference to the book to make fans happy. Robert Heinlein, certainly, but not Paul Verhoeven.

    Weird political systems

I very much enjoy the crazy voting scheme used in the Republic of Venice, described here. Basically, Venice was ruled by a large number of major families, led by a Doje who was elected for life, and wield significant power, but also had to pay all city-paid expenses from his own family's money...

I was "booed" for even showing the 4e Core books

You are aware that the Mojave experiment was a complete crock? The subjects saw "Mojave" for only 10 minutes, total, on machines setup and pre-configured by Microsoft to meet the needs pre-determined for that specific user. In addition, they didn't "try" it. It was demo'd to them by trained...

Flavour First vs Game First - a comparison

Actually, I seem to remember the very last paragraph of the book noting that Wesley suffers a relapse and Inigo passes out from his wounds. Nice try, though. ;)

    Cheating cheaters

I'm going to take a completely different approach to the "different playstyle" angle... It might be an indication that she's more interested in a narrative rather than gamist or simulationist playstyle. A lot of very narrative-oriented games allow players a lot more direct control over their...

The Le Games: Apology to the Gaming Community

Like I said, I think he's doing the right thing. I applaud his taking the first step towards regaining trust. I forgive him, but that doesn't change the fact that my trust has been betrayed, and it will take a while to re-earn it.

Star Wars - Some setting exploration

I do agree with the earlier poster who didn't want the Sith to come back, because it would invalidate the meaning of Vader's victory. (Queue backstory) If I were to attempt this, I would go even further back into SW:EU history. This Sith we know in the movies and even as early as KotOR are...

The Le Games: Apology to the Gaming Community

While I appreciate your apology and its sincerity, I don't think giving away some free stuff is going to magically make everything better. I'm not writing you off forever, but you've definitely lost my trust. It will take time to re-earn that. You taken the right first step, but it's not an...

Dungeons & Dragons Editions: Where Do You Stand?

I think it might have been a good idea to break Pathfinder out into its own category. I expect it will significantly outscore other d20 fantasy variants, and it would be interesting to know it independently of them.

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

My players suffer from a mortal allergy to consumable magic items. They won't touch them with a 10' pole, claiming that their a waste of money and/or XP.

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Haha. That's a good one. Seriously, my players have precisely zero system mastery. I periodically have to remind the fighter than she can, y'know, use some of those feats she has. And the cleric still doesn't understand how spell save DC's work. No, they do it because it's more fun and...

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Maybe my group plays strangely, but I've never had an issue with spellcasters overshadowing rogues, without banning any spells. In my experience, even though they could potentially be super-rogues, my wizard players would much rather spend their spell slots on more useful/fun things, particular...
