    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

The rules are clear - Loading only prevents firing multiple pieces of ammunition from a single Action (Extra Attack being the obvious example), or from a single Bonus Action (is this ever even possible?), or from a single Reaction. You can fire multiple times in a turn if you have more than one...

D&D General To Prep or Not to Prep - A Players Perspective

You're overanalyzing this - players are allowed to have preferences on what type of DMs they like, and he's just asking what style people enjoy more

D&D General To Prep or Not to Prep - A Players Perspective

The only difference between Salient Detail and Minimal Detail is the improvisational skill of the DM. If you're amazing at improvising, Minimal Detail looks Salient to the players. If you're bad enough at improvising, even Extensive Detail could look Minimal to the players.

D&D 5E (2024) Ranger: is Horde Breaker a bit too good for level 3?

This may have already been covered, but the reason Rogues can Sneak Attack twice per round is because the text says "once per turn" whereas Horde Breaker says "once on your turn". Rogues can specifically use Sneak Attack on someone else's turn, so it works differently than Horde Breaker.

    D&D 5E (2024) Party Balance?

I think that text is ok as a nod to the history of the game and an appeal to nostalgia, but it also is actively detrimental to new players learning DnD. It sure looks like the standard holy trinity of MMORPG roles - tank, healer, and then melee/ranged dps, which is absolutely NOT how DnD...

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

DnD multiclassing isn't particularly about synergy or multiplicative effects. Multiclassing is so powerful because all of the most powerful abilities are frontloaded at very low levels (with the only exception being high level spells). So once you are past around level 6-8 or so (depending...

D&D 5E (2014) Balance Issues With This Magic Item?

This item is basically the Find Familiar spell, and yeah that spell is perhaps excessively good, at all levels. My only concern with that magic item would be that you're basically giving away a core class feature to all classes. This is not necessarily a problem, just a concern to think about.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bravely running away

Cite your sources please. You are quoting a bunch of specific details of "how the game is designed" that I have never heard anyone quote before. I would argue that the game is designed for many different types of approaches, and that anyone claiming "DnD is designed for exactly X" is wrong...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bravely running away

Players can't see what the DM sees. They don't know that they are outmatched unless you make it clear. Players absolutely will retreat if they understand the situation, but this never happens unless the DM telegraphs what is clear to the DM but invisible to the players. Also you have to do...

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

Players rarely (never?) run away for two reasons. First, just because it is obvious to the DM that the players are outmatched, it is never apparent to the players unless the DM telegraphs it to the point that the players are basically told to not engage in combat. As a player, I can't see the...

D&D 5E (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

Same here, I'm not seeing any difference in combat speed, and I think the fear of slower combat is extremely overblown. With 2014 rules, some people were prepared for their turn and went fast, other people took forever to make even the simplest decision. With 2024 rules, the same people are...

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

I assume you're joking here but having items that could only be attuned to by single class characters actually would be a great mechanic to add to the game to help level the playing field a bit.

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

Depends heavily on the situation. Starting with a Fighter dip is preferred if you want to bump Concentration saves but also want heavy armor proficiency (and a free fighting style for +1 AC), and these benefits outweigh the painful delay in spell progression by an entire level. Starting with...

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

It is fairly normal for any caster dipping into Sorcerer for con save proficiency or into Fighter for con save proficiency + heavy armor proficiency, since it has to be the first level or you don't get the benefit. Otherwise you are right though, there's no reason to care about having your 1...

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

For most classes, their absolute best features are front-loaded in Level 1 and 2. Subclasses features pale in comparison to most Base Class features in the first two levels. Changing subclasses to Level 3 has almost zero impact on multi-classing. People will still take 1 level Sorcerer dip...

D&D 5E (2024) New rules for spell scrolls??

The only listed restriction in the PHB is that the spell has to be on your class spell list. There is no wording about restrictions if the spell level is higher than you can currently cast. However as mentioned above, the PHB section is specifically referring to cantrips and level 1 spells, so...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

Really? I don't think I've ever played a character in a campaign without going way way over 120 pounds worth of inventory. Even if you go naked with no weapons, you're capped at 6000 gold as the maximum you can earn. I've only ever played in one campaign that used encumbrance, and it was very...
