D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

55th session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. Three player characters of 11th level: Half-orc cavalier fighter, halfling swashbuckler rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. This is the climax! The Xanathar has been co-opted by one of his mindflayer lieutenants and is...

D&D 5E (2014) Which WotC 5E Adventure Makes the Best Sandbox?

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't intending to mislead. And I agree that it seems clear the intent was to make Daggerford a starting region, which would have dovetailed really nicely with the Next adventures. I still imagine an alternate reality where the "Lost Mine of Phandelver" was the...

Digging Into Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk

I've kind of always felt that Rime of the Frostmaiden should have had more cosmic horror. I mean, The Thing was an obvious inspiration. I would have had Ythryn be a mind flayer ship from outer space and made them responsible for the endless night. Maybe I'll mashup Shattered Obelisk and...

D&D 5E (2014) Which WotC 5E Adventure Makes the Best Sandbox?

Also: I'm in agreement with what everyone else here has said. Lots of good material from published campaigns could be repurposed into a compelling sandbox.

D&D 5E (2014) Which WotC 5E Adventure Makes the Best Sandbox?

All I know is this little nugget from Schley's description: This piece was commissioned as part of the 5th edition release of the D&D Dungeon Masters Guide.

D&D 5E (2014) Which WotC 5E Adventure Makes the Best Sandbox?

Also: The Alexandrian's review of Rime of the Frost Maiden points out that the campaign isn't a sandbox, but probably should have been--and perhaps could be made to be so.

D&D 5E (2014) Which WotC 5E Adventure Makes the Best Sandbox?

The best sandbox is the Daggerford maps that were commissioned for the 2014 DMG but never published: https://prints.mikeschley.com/p52230723/e400a3be https://prints.mikeschley.com/p858006957/e27b48d70 https://prints.mikeschley.com/p858006957/e31cf670d Supplemented nicely by the Next playtest...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Not sure what session it is in our Twilight: 2000 campaign. A lot has happened. And as a player I've been in and out. To summarize, our group got pressganged by a rogue unit of American soldiers. They had occupied a prison and allied with a cult of religious prisoners. They were in the process...

    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 7 Live on D&D Beyond

For the Wizard, these playtest features -- Modify Spell, Create Spell, and Memorize Spell -- seem like they could be the basis for a good subclass. Something like what the Order of Scribes should have been.

    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 7 Live on D&D Beyond

Seems like the final class design is coming into focus... Martials got a significant overhaul. Spellcasters went through big changes only to end up where they started. I'm sad that some of the boldest ideas ended up on the cutting room floor, but 2024 looks like a good iteration of the game.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

52nd and 53rd sessions of my Neverwinter/Sword Coast campaign. Drow evoker wizard, human genie warlock, half orc vengeance paladin. They reached 10th level over the course of the sessions. The characters have multiple leads into the schemes of an array of villains. They are making plans to...

D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver starting to show up in the wild. NewbieDM looks to be the first!

Agreed. I have started two longterm campaigns in Phandalin and eventually regretted it both times. So, so dull.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

It's kind of like voting for President. I'm glad we get to vote. I don't always like who is elected.

Bummed yet again at all the cool ideas being left on the cutting room floor thanks to community feedback.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

54th session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. Three player characters of 11th level: Half-orc cavalier fighter, halfling swashbuckler rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. In this episode, the players (and their characters) made their battle plan for the climactic fight...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

51st session of my Neverwinter/Sword Coast campaign. Drow evoker wizard, human genie warlock, half orc vengeance paladin at 9th level. This session, I did something experimental. I had them find a villain's journal that spelled out all the schemes of the characters' foes. Not just for this one...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

53rd session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. Three player characters of 10th level: Half-orc cavalier fighter, halfling swashbuckler rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. Transitional episode. The characters gathered at the home of a noble ally. This noble and several...

    D&D 5E (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

I use a 5 minute short rest. Helps bring the warlock and other short rest classes up to par. Have not seen any negative impacts.
