Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos - An In-Depth Review

We're discussing an imaginary elf game. Consider being civil.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

7th session of Monte Cook's 3E Banewarrens campaign run with Shadow of the Demon Lord on Owlbear Rodeo. Five player characters at Level 2: Dwarf Warrior. Heir to a lost kingdom -- in this case, Dwarvenhearth, deep beneath Ptolus. His trinket is half of a treasure map. Elf Magician. Outcast...

D&D General Any Realms-Heads Know About The Politics of The Sword Coast?

You know, I don't have my copies of either book handy, but I remember being somewhat shocked at the number of evil nobles and authority figures in Waterdeep. There's a lot of skullduggery and shadiness. My concept of the city is that it's a bastion of civilization in the North, but distinctly...

D&D General Any Realms-Heads Know About The Politics of The Sword Coast?

One more thought...most of the noble families control commercial interests. They're merchant princes. That means government and industry are basically a single entity. Typically, that's bad news for the common people. I mean, imagine what would happen to the United States if a guy got elected...

D&D General Any Realms-Heads Know About The Politics of The Sword Coast?

Back to the OP, I would look at 3E's Waterdeep: City of Splendors or even the original Waterdeep and the North. Large portions of Waterdeep's nobility are downright evil. Many more are neutral. Few are good. It's right there in the text, indisputable. Additionally, the Open Lord has limited...

6th session of Monte Cook's 3E Banewarrens campaign run with Shadow of the Demon Lord on Owlbear Rodeo. Five player characters at level one: Dwarf Warrior. Heir to a lost kingdom -- in this case, Dwarvenhearth, deep beneath Ptolus. His trinket is half of a treasure map. Elf Magician. Outcast...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Thanks! I was surprised at the direction it went. The socialite, Lady Avaryx, was intended to be a throwaway character...but she's managed to get the PCs in a tough spot and she could turn out to be a campaign-defining villain.

D&D General Ranking the Pillars of Play

I put Combat in the #1 slot...and yet...4 out of the last 5 sessions I've run have had no combat whatsoever. And they've been fun!

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

32nd session in my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. 7th level half-orc fighter, halfling rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. TL;DR TPK In this session, they arrived at the shuttered scriptorium once owned by the wizard's family. He knew that a magical artifact that was his...

D&D 5E (2014) Waterdeep: Dragon Heist - Which Season is the Best Story Arc? [Spoilers]

I basically did the same thing. I took inspiration from the Alexandrian Remix, ran multiple villains simultaneously, and modified all the villains to match the characters' backstories. We're 32 sessions in, the characters are 7th level, and we're having a blast. I anticipate having this...

By the way, I don't mean to bag on WotC. I love the official products. I just meant that Vault of Magic is really good.

D&D 5E (2014) [Kobold Press] Vault of Magic is Live!!!

My hardcopy arrived in the mail this week. It's fantastic. Probably better than any magic item compendium every published by WotC.

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Converting WFRP to 5e

I like 5E and play it a lot. But having played SotDL, too, I would argue that it's easier to learn than a modded version of 5E.
