Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

This pit is a 20-ft radius, 20-ft deep, with a 10-ft high dome cage above it. Spectators can huddle around the outside of the cage and look in. It's located in a back room, indoors, to a large casino in Sigil. It's a planar location, so the stranger the creatures, the better. If you don't...

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

So what creatures would you suggest? Name a few that you would pit against each other. Something other than bears, or dogs. I wouldn't ask for help if all I was going to come up with were real world animals. Those are obvious choices. :) I do like the Troll idea.

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

Yep, it's a monster vs monster situation where the PCs would gamble and bet on the winner rather than participate in the fight. It's just for flavor, so I don't even need to roll attacks and actually play out a fight. If it is an even CR, I can roll a 50% chance to determine the winner and just...

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

I'm interested in any and all monsters from all of the 3.5 monster manuals including Forgotten Realms (that fit the criteria from my OP). I guess nothing bigger than large size would be more appropriate. This pit will be an indoor arena in a pretty large gambling hall. But the pit is only about...

What are the gambling odds for this game of chance?

I'm trying to simulate a roulette game that has 1000 squares (results). If a player places a bet that the ball lands on any of the 100's squares (100, 200, 300, etc, etc), but within each of those squares is still a 50/50 chance that it still loses, what kind of odds would that be? How much...

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

It doesn't need to be a pack vs a single creature. It also doesn't need to be a weak creature vs a stronger creature. I actually prefer it to be 2 different creatures of equal CR just to make it easy. For example, maybe an Otyugh vs an Owlbear. I'm just looking for some ideas from all of the...

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

I'd like to create the D&D equivalent of a Bear Baiting game for my campaign (put a bear in a pit and have it fight 2 dogs). My version would consist of D&D monsters though. Preferably low level monsters with low intelligence scores that would not be a threat to spectators (can't be having...

More information about the gates of the Outland gatetowns?

I've heard of other people using the towns that exact same way. It's a pretty good concept that adds to the weirdness of the planes. The only issue with that is the fact that gatetowns can slide completely into the plane they are associated with. If they exist in both places, they can't really...

    Optimizers, oh my!

I've seen an equal share of good/bad optimizing roleplayers and good/bad roleplaying/optimizers. None has really ever been more dominant than the other. What's really bad is the roleplayer that always hogs the spotlight out of combat, who is also an optimizer that always hogs the spotlight...

More information about the gates of the Outland gatetowns?

That's very helpful, thanks. I'll check out those sections once I get a chance. It's strange; all of these years I've used the gatetown portals, I never thought about how the gate works going from the plane back to the gatetown. So I never realized that it is rarely ever described even though...

More information about the gates of the Outland gatetowns?

Mostly the Player's Primer to the Outlands and the Sigil & Beyond book from the Campaign boxset. I haven't looked in the other boxsets. I don't remember ever reading any gatetown gate information from those boxsets.

More information about the gates of the Outland gatetowns?

I'm trying to get information about each of the gates in the gatetowns of the Outlands. I've gone through my Planescape sources but there are details that are missing that I would like to get answers to (they may not even exist). If anyone knows the official answers to these questions (and the...

Thanks, I just ordered two bottles of that stuff.

    Miniature Painting

That Gorilla Super glue is what I have now. I have several plastic minis (and 1 metal mini) that keep coming apart after I used that glue. It's the thin bits that keep breaking off again (like ankles or weapons). But I assume there is a glue made to fix even those tiny parts.

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition Launches Today!

Tieflings are in this version? I didn't know that. Now when I use my Photoshopped Tiefling portrait that I made back in the day, my PC really will be a Tiefling rather than a Half-Elf that I just called a Tiefling.

    101 Adventures in Hell

For great encounters in Hell, check out the 2e Fires of Dis adventure. It only takes place on the first 2 layers, but it has some great "random" encounters involving devils. It actually gives personality to them rather than them just being monsters to kill. One easy way to make encounters more...

    Miniature Painting

I've been thinking about adding plastic bases to some plastic animal toys I bought to use as miniatures. What kind of glue works best for this? I have super glue that I bought at Target to fix broken plastic minis. But it never seems to be that super. Is there some special type of glue for this...

How to tell someone not to come back.

Get him a woman, or children. He doesn't need both. Either one will keep him from gaming. In fact, having both can sometimes allow you to game. So it's best to stick with one or the other.

    Art Collections

Not to be a downer to this thread, but the biggest most awesomest thing WotC could do to take all of my money away from me is to convert every 1e, 2e, and 4e adventure using 3.5 rules. I'm the kind of guy that would have to buy every conversion, even if the adventure sucks. I'm sure I'm not the...
