D&D 5E (2014) Unearthed Arcana: Giants survey is up

I praised the Barbarian and begged that it not be nerfed to irrelevance, said that the Druid sub-class needed a gooder dinosaur, flagged the Rune Wizard as not being all that Runic. The feats are OK but shouldn’t have level requirements if Fey Touched doesn’t. The Rune one and the Mighty one...

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Player Survey!

I answered homebrew of existing content with the reason being I’m too lazy to read up decades worth of Forgotten Realms lore. The kids I DM for don’t seem to care :)

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

There’s also something called an Oceanus Dragon. Are these just ones that didn’t make the cut for Fizzban’s and so they wanted to acknowledge them with cards?

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

There is a magic card in the new Baldur’s Gate set called “Earthquake Dragon” and its tagged as an Elemental Dragon. Is this something that has appeared before? Could it tie into a primordial theme?

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

In terms of adding features that are fun, what about reworking the Charger feat so that you don’t have to dash with your main action to make the bonus attack that gets the +5 to damage, just requiring they move X ft before the attack instead? This would allow the Monk class to turn mobility into...

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

Something else that can help right now is ensuring the player gets the right magic items at the right times. I’d say level 4 is a good time for the Dragonhide Belt and level 6 for the Eldritch Claw tattoo. If you then scale these at 11 and 17 you’ve fixed the base class issues bar AC...

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

One of the things I’ll do going forward is to replace the Elemental Attunement ability of the Four Elements Monk with the Elemental Touched feat of the new Giants Unearthed Arcana. I would also let them attune to an additional element per day at each level they gain an elemental discipline, in...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

In the new Baldur’s Gate Commander deck there is a Background card called “Raised by Giants” the wording of Outsized Might suggests to me that it could be the background feat of a medium/small character that grew up with giants and absorbed their magic.

It would be incredibly powerful defensively, it’s close to the +5 of Shield and it reduces the chance of getting a critical hit. You’d not do much offensively but you would be a very good dodge tank.

Couldn’t this be for the Magic the Gathering setting Ikoria? If I recall correctly, the last set was called Lair of Behemoths.

D&D 5E (2014) Let’s Read Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.

The Kobold Inventor with its boosted stats is probably the best way to play a Kobold with Pack Tactics under new rules by playing a Spellcaster or Expert . Even a Warrior could do well with +2 on attack for the thrown effects.

    D&D 5E (2024) Elf as a class

I’ve never played one so I cannot comment mechanically but the race as class appeals to me from a narrative perspective if you want to play an accidental adventurer, much like the Hobbits of LotR.

I would add to that their healing and ability to cure serious conditions also adds to their non-combat utility. They furthermore receive skill proficiencies that align with their main stats (Dexterity and Wisdom). There has been an attempt at this in the Astral Self and Ascendant Dragon Monk but...

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

How would Perfect self work? Currently the biggest issue is that it only works if you have 0 Ki. If it activates when initiative is rolled this might help. I’d rather just have a flat bonus based on proficiency bonus since one of the other things about Monks and Ki that should change is that it...

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

Here is my list of homebrew suggestions, they are in increasing levels of spice based on how much help you feel the class needs: 1. d10 2. Spend hit dice to regain proficiency bonus (PB) Ki up to 2 times per day 3. AC = 12 + DEX/WIS + PB 4. d6 through d12 martial arts 5. Spend Ki to cast innate...

I have multi-classed it too. I’m specifically referring to the 13 in two stats which makes multi-classing with something INT/CHA based difficult unless you sacrifice CON. This is in the context of point buy of course.

Well since you’re playtest try regaining Proficiency Bonus worth Ki as an Action spending a hit die or Martial Arts Ki as an Action spending a hit die. If we had this as an optional class feature once or twice per day instead of the Healing option in Tasha’s it would’ve helped a lot.

Now you’re more or less back to where they were in the dndnext playtest before bonus actions became a thing except that HD was not d10 and martial arts started at d6. I wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall to see what the feedback was back then.

D&D 5E (2014) Buffing monks: with simple changes.

I play on a Westmarches with 1000s of players on it. It’s the least frequently played class and while those (30 odd I think) that play it enjoy it for its flavor I promise you that each and every one of us wishes for more HP, more Ki and less restrictive mechanics for armor, multi-classing etc...
